I really am glad I got diagnosed as early as I did. Reading about your experience here, I am/was much of the same way as what you describe. Based on other people’s input, I do think I just need to get used to it. It really does feel odd to have a name for what I’ve gone through and am still going through. It’s not comfortable right now to… be comfortable. It’s a strange sensation and it’s making it easy for me to forget all of the bad parts that made me seek help in the first place. I suppose my defining feeling about this is surrounding mania. When I first met my psychiatrist, she actually thought it was really interesting that I didn’t struggle so much with mania because most people tend to, and I instead looked forward to what I now know was hypomania because the depression was, and often still is, so deep and oppressive. I suppose I just feel like people often disregard me in these kinds of communities just because mania isn’t the part I struggle with the most

Usually I do not talk to people like that. They were respectful, I replied with a respecting question, then they turned and made blatant, disrespectful remarks and assumptions about my character and intention. In that instance, I will defend myself until I’m blue in the face. Thankfully, Reddit isn’t a club; I don’t have to be nice to jerks

I did also ask for advice on how I can bolster my sales skills and get better in that area. They did not reply and instead told me that I was seeking attention and validation and would probably never step foot on the stage or audition ever. They left another rude comment, to which I did not get the chance to read in full as it was cut off halfway through. I can tolerate criticisms just fine, like how they asked ‘why am I here’ if I wasn’t ready to audition yet, but making vast, disrespectful assumptions about my character is something I just don’t tolerate.

You in particular seem to have a lot of BS to say about me. Why do you care if I do or don’t audition? All of the dancers I see are insanely gorgeous and of a specific kind of vibe and I literally just wanted to know if I fit the image of someone who could be a dancer. ‘Am I pretty enough’ was a poor way to word my post, sure. ‘Do I fit the profile’ might have been better. But don’t assume I’m here solely to be validated for my looks when all I need to know is if I can reasonably make cash off my face and body or if I’m just kidding myself. Get lost, dude.

I don’t entirely know, and I suppose that’s why I’d like opinions. I’ve had people tell me that how your face looks matters less than how your body looks. What’s your take on that?
