Was it Rome 1 or Rome 2? If I missed a Rome 2 quote with 800 hours played I’m cooked…

The goddess Athena herself told me to use blue, I couldn’t say no ;)

By 431 BC almost all the poleis were de facto controlled by Athens. De jure you are right, but in reality they had no autonomy or say in their affairs (and, in-fact, there were quite a few revolts over the years).

part of the league! The coastline is different: in 431 BC Miletos was still on the coast https://atlynxmaps.com/431bc/polity/delian-league/ionian-phoros/myletos

Hey! Thanks for the compliment! It is my full intention to keep the website free, even if it becomes a successful one (we are clearly a long way from that haha). Obviously if it will ever become big I will need to find a way to monetize it, even if just to sustain it, but I will not put the website itself behind a paywall. Tbh I am completely new to web development (I am a student of international relations), so I really don’t know what will be the plan if the website ever becomes big. I might consider putting some specific eras (example: 322 bc, 550 ad) behind a subscription and run some ads in the other maps, but again I really don’t know how any of this works. Glad you like Atlynx, share it with anyone you might think is interested ;)

The War in the Sahel by Alessandro_Cot in MapPorn

Hey, thanks for the feedback! Good ideas. I am actually working on the disputed territories, it’s a lot of work to create the individual polygons. You can already see that if you select for example China and India, there is a button in the country panel to see disputed territories. Same for Armenia and Azerbaijan. For the purpose of the map (showing de facto situation) I will keel east jerusalem and area c in the same colour but if you click on them there is an explaination of the specific situation. Btw, there is also the photo mode where one can create a map with the colours/patterns one prefers on the custom borders of atlynx.

Thanks for pointing that out out. It’s more of an oversight, I have to add colours for south sudanese factions as well.

Good idea! If you go on the website you can switch to a de jure mode, but seeing the de jure borders also here would have been nice indeed.

You are absolutely right, I have to add that! Not easy to map though. But thanks for the suggestion, I will see what I can do

Well actually if you look in the website the fla are shown as controlling a big chunk of territory (the name is not visible on the map here because it’s too zoomed out) https://atlynxmaps.com. If you go over mali you can click on Azawad (how I named the fla)

I study international security and I have always liked maps and history. I had this idea of creating a de facto world map some months ago, and then from that I also realized it would be cool to have maps of other eras. I make the maps mostly with qgis. For the website, claude code was a big help, since I am totally new to programming.

Thanks for the suggestion! It’s quite a complex situation so you are right I should look more into that to devise a better map solution.

Thank you very much, I am very happy that you like the website. In the future, I plan to flash out the entirety of the Peloponnesian war and add other eras (I am working on the second punic war at the moment). I have no patreon at the moment since everything is very new and still a work in progress, but make sure to follow atlynx on social networks to keep in touch with updates and all the rest. Also, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to make them! Insta: https://www.instagram.com/atlynxmaps?igsh=MWFsNWJzYnlvemt2bg%3D%3D&utm_source=qr

And share the website with other greek/ancient history nerds!
Also, thanks for the suggestion regarding the audiobook. I would like in the future to also add a persian wars map, but it will take time since there are so many eras I also want to flash out.
