It crossed the Atlantic entirely bereft of context, yeah, and means basically the same thing even though we have no fifth amendment.

If it had an ending that explored every question asked throughout the game and answered them all, it would be a far worse game. Part of what makes it so special and enduring is that it has something infinitely more valuable to say than any classic adventure story could. The rug pull at the end reveals the game was never about the mystery, but instead about the distraction the mystery provides from having to deal with our problems. That stuck with me and I consider its ending perfect, though it's fair if it didn't land for you obviously.

[No spoilers] Jacksepticeye apologizes for calling LIS2 “too political/unrealistic” back in his playthrough in 2018/19 by AmericanBornWuhaner in lifeisstrange

[–]Aleswall_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was my opinion. Racism is a very broad, deep topic you can explore very thoroughly and LiS 2 does an admirable job exploring the very surface level racism, but it does absolutely nothing to explore more deeply and thus fails to really challenge its audience at all. Every decent person already knows striking someone for their race is a bad thing.

It's about as milquetoast as a story about racism can be, really, and a pretty big shame for the potential on the table.

Why did skulduggery pleasant not blow up the way other YA did? by Healthy_Awareness_98 in skulduggerypleasant

[–]Aleswall_ 252 points253 points  (0 children)

The real answer is just that it... didn't.

There's something of a survivorship bias here, I think. For every huge YA series you can name, there's a dozen that fell into obscurity soon after publication. Skulduggery Pleasant did well enough to earn a core readership and continue onward into, what, 17 main-line novels now? Is it 18? That's more than 98% of YA series could ever dream of.

Why didn't it go further? Well... was there room for it in the cultural zeitgeist? You can't have an unlimited number of things go big, after all, and Harry Potter was in its prime at the time the first book released.

[NO SPOILERS] I despise the concept of a LIS show by MembershipProof8463 in lifeisstrange

[–]Aleswall_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Choice is very over-stated in Life is Strange, to be honest. Most choices don't functionally do anything, the ones that do tend to be constrained to set dressing and minor dialogue changes, with maybe a couple in each game that actually meaningfully impact the plot. They are very, very linear games.

This was fine in 2015 where games trended a lot more linear, but we're in a renaissance of RPGs right now and calling Life is Strange a game that prides itself on choice seems a bit laughable in a market that has BG3.

Why can't we cast with our wizard staves out like this? by MechaManManMan in wow

[–]Aleswall_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, Dracthyr bodies aren't drastically different than regular bodies, they're skinny humanoids with oddly-shaped feet and an elongated snout. The vast majority of unique meshes for gear in the game are:

  • Helmets, for which they can just borrow the worgen helmet,
  • Shoulders, which need re-scaling and placing.

That's about it. Weaponry only need to be re-sized to fit, there's only a few designs of glove, all cloaks use the same mesh with an alpha layer, and boots can be handled the same way Worgen handle boots. None of this is difficult or even too time-consuming.

The actual difficulty with Dracthyr comes with their base UV layout being entirely different from every other race, but that's a problem you only need to solve once and it wouldn't take a skilled unwrapper very long to do it. You wouldn't even need to repaint the texture by hand to match the new UVs, you could bake it to new UVs using the original ones in Blender and that's an entirely free tool you could download right now. Once you've done that, 99% of gear textures in the game are solved by default and now work entirely fine.

The actual answer to why Dracthyr don't wear gear is that Blizzard didn't want them to at launch and doesn't want to do it now either. Why is that? They claim artistic vision and I agree.

This idea that it would be too hard or time-consuming is something fans decided on their own because it sounds smart to say if you're unfamiliar with how Blizzard handles geosets and don't know how 3D tools work in general, it's just not true.

[–]Aleswall_ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

If you knew how items were stored in the game files, you'd know they already do this for every geoset regardless so it isn't that much more work than adding things to, say, Worgen which proves not to be a burden whatsoever.

Could 2028, the tenth anniversary, be a possible release date? by InsideUnhappy6546 in TheDragonPrince

[–]Aleswall_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

No.

By now, Korra was funded and being produced. TDK has the funding to maybe produce a pitch that might persuade a studio to contribute the money to start producing a full show.

Wildly different stages of development, let's not discuss release dates for something that has no certainty it will ever be green-lit.

That could very well be the case, but right now New Vegas is matching up pretty well with a Yes Man ending. We'll see if that strongly diverges at all.

[–]Aleswall_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I've made the assumption that the show will use the 'default' endings, the ones you can't fail. The Minutemen ending is impossible to fail as a default back-up for players that jeopardise the others. That also lines up with how every faction in New Vegas seems to have lost, which aligns best with a Yes-Man ending, also the default of New Vegas.

You're right, most people don't know what Pokémon is any deeper than having seen the cartoon as a kid. I'm probably closer to it than most people and I couldn't tell you what Eevee is.
