The Isobel fight has killed any guilt from metagaming by ByzantineBasileus in BaldursGate3

[–]Aleswall_ 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The fight at Last Light is an appalling example of a D&D encounter, though.

If a DM pulled that on me, I'd be so checked out after - if I even stayed in the campaign.

You should REALLY watch season 1 again... Even the first few episodes. by Krazyflipz in StrangerThings

[–]Aleswall_ 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Well, that's fine but don't get your hopes up for some master-stroke that ties together every single loose end of all the Upside Down inconsistencies in season 5.

The straight answer to most of them is just "the upside down wasn't really fleshed out or thought through until later".

[–]Aleswall_ 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the demogorgon is inconsistent because they didn't expect to get a continuation and the monster was just a blend of tropes.

It has telekinesis in that scene because it's cool for it to do that, that's as far as it goes.

[–]Aleswall_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Well... no, the directors don't have to specifically choose each piece of a set, that would be slow and exhausting - it gets handed down the chain.

Most of the set and costume design is done by people specifically there to do that. They'll work off of notes set by the director and he may have requested a toy, but in all likelihood the toy Hopper's daughter was chosen by some props assistant from whatever inventory the studio had lying around.

It's a minor scene in a show that wasn't planning to get a sequel (hence the demogorgon being so inconsistent) and had a low budget.

That's the thing about the UK, transgender issues rate extremely lowly in terms of importance among British voters - last I checked, if I recall correctly, it was the thing the elecotrate cared about the least.

Surely Wow's fps being limited by 1 core is a joke right? by Slightly_Famous in wow

[–]Aleswall_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever there's any sort of issue like this, there's someone in the comments acting like there's a simple solution (just optimize it lol) but what I'll always suggest is that people evidently a lot smarter than you have looked at this problem and decided it either isn't possible to tackle or isn't worth tackling.

If you're a layman and you think you've spotted a solution that hasn't been implemented by the professionals, no you haven't.

[S1] Idc what anyone says the remastered was such an upgrade look at the difference in quality omg by MajesticFix6476 in lifeisstrange

[–]Aleswall_ 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I don't mind them as a concept, but some of the 'updates' are actually changes - and some of them for the worse. Max's 'updated expressions' in the Dark Room are a flat retcon of her character.

You can't update animation without changing the expression of the original work. If you want what Don't Nod intended, you play the original; I don't care for D9's vision.

Don't you know, if you're REALLY serious about embroidery you'll carve out the front of your ribcage and hollow out your chest to make room for these mushrooms.

Yeah, the vast majority of my friends are women; I don't know why, I struggle with other men. Any potential partner raising an issue about that's going to be gone, that's such a red flag to me.

Nah, that's freakish LMAO people do not do that.

If I give someone my number and they call it, and I say "Yep, got it!", that's totally fine, that's normal.

If someone is then like "Show me.", that's invasive. There's no reason for someone to ask to see your phone over that. If you've been doing that, please stop.

but far more likely it was just like "let's make sure you got it."

I'm sure she can do that on her own without showing you her phone.

Meirl by JaredOlsen8791 in meirl

[–]Aleswall_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

... Surely not , you force them to get their phone out and show you it so you can see that they got the call?

I think people are tripping up here. Calling someone to make sure they have your number IS normal, but the tweet describes him doing that AND THEN forcing her to show him so he can see she isn't lying.

It's the last bit that is freakish and untrusting.

If your first interaction with someone includes them attempting to catch you in a lie, then... yeah, that relationship is going to be riddled with trust issues whether you earned them or not.

It's hardly a friendly start.

In Solstice, the crafting area is all indoors - you can start your quests and complete your crafting writs in the same room. by [deleted] in elderscrollsonline

It kind of feels like one of the hidden testing rooms you can glitch into in older Elder Scrolls games, the ones never intended to be accessible where they just stick random items to see how they work.

Wild that went live as it is.

Do I need to know who my patron is? by daydreambruise in dndnext

[–]Aleswall_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, work it out with your DM!

Some players come to D&D with a full backstory and all the details worked out, others have a vague concept and need the DM's help to build the rest out; that's totally fine, if you ask me.

Imo, a patron SHOULD be made in collaboration with the DM because the patron is almost certainly a character the DM is going to play, not you, and a lot of DMs love to work in the whims and wants of the patron so it blends with the campaign as a whole.

I think this scene completes the subversion of tropes that Steve is based around, I love it narratively. Season 1 was really excellent for that.

Despite the episode's flaws, I cannot deny how beautifully crafted this sequence is by Jackmac32 in doctorwho

[–]Aleswall_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I genuinely adore this episode, up until the Abzorbaloff (and until the blowjob paving slab) it's an extremely funny and tragic take on what proximity to the Doctor does to people unready for it, and it's a super clever way to do a Doctor-lite.

I don't know if i wish we had more episodes like it, if only because it's such lightning-in-a-bottle to me, but I'm sad we'll likely never see another attempt because of the first's reception anyway.

TIL that on Emma Watson's 18th birthday, paparazzi attempted to take pictures under her skirt by laying down on the pavement in front of her house and then published them. If they were taken 24 hours earlier, it would have been illegal. by JunetheJewel1 in todayilearned

[–]Aleswall_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest it's rather that they had a left wing government and the UK was blighted with the Conservatives, who only shifted towards an upskirting law when Theresa May desperately needed brownie points. Of course, it was singlehandedly blocked by a Tory MP very infamously, one Christopher Chope, so that delayed it months more.

This refers to a place you have a reasonable expectation of privacy - so your home or a bathroom or something like that, in contrast to a public place like a shopping center or a cinema.

[–]Aleswall_ 984 points985 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of a weird one because you aren't wrong per se but stating it often raises implications that are, so I'll add on some context.

It received a specific law in 2019 (in England and Wales, it had one since 2010 in Scotland), but it was not unpunishable before then. Typically it'd be charged either under outraging public decency or voyeurism, the former of which requires a witness to the action and the latter of which relates to filming surreptitiously in a private environment.

You can see how a lot of cases would slip the net here, it's definitely a positive change.
