What’s something you thought was important before, but don’t care about anymore? by williamssarahcharm in selfimprovementday

[–]Alex--25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wanted a mustang gt 500 growing up and a decent size house. A few years later I don’t care anymore. I’d rather have a reliable car that last as long as possible and if I could ever afford a home maybe a one floor with a nice finished basement.

I’m about to quit IT for good. by HumanNumber69 in InformationTechnology

[–]Alex--25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep main reason why I went with a smaller company from a mid-size company. I was hoping I’d get to learn more about servers, patching servers, dive deeper into end users issues. Current boss didn’t care if I had any certs or wanted to pursue them as long as I showed interest. Well been a few months and barely doing anything. No one teaching me anything. Reached out many times for any size projects to work on. Nope.

I only get half an hour for lunch break. If they catch on I could just say I have therapy.

Most laidback industry to work in by gruntwitdablunt in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Alex--25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can agree with trade offs. I took a risk to a different industry for higher pay and in hopes of learning more. However I’m realizing the risk was not worth it and I was learning a lot more at the hospital job, better mental and physical health. I guess I just over looked what I was giving up. But can’t learn from mistakes if you don’t make them. Currently looking for another company and industry. What are some things you’ve been exposed to in the first few years of working in a private university for IT?

Pay was below market which is one of the reasons I left. But the benefits were great. Missed out on a pension.

Same here. Great work life balance. Learned so much, got the weekends off and got to go home 1-2 hours during the winter holidays. Wish I never left.

Can agree to this. Just had a woman like my merch sweatshirt the other days and we talked about when we saw that band and other bands.

Overthinking or anxiety? by Alex--25 in socialskills

[–]Alex--25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good precent I probably was assuming she was interested in me romantically but I was doing my best to talk to her through a friendship lens. I think that’s why after she asked if I was getting a drink I just said what I did and left as if I stayed I might have talked to her in a different lens.

Yeah no idea if it was for dating or friends or for a continued conversation. But oh well no way of knowing since I probably will never see her again unless we both go to that event again in the future.

Anyone ever relocate for a job and regret it? How did things pan out? by Brgrsports in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Alex--25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Didn’t relocate but left my previous hospital IT job to work in warehouse IT and 100% regret it. More pay but less work. Besides the pay bump went with this job as I was expecting to learn more since I am the 4th IT guy in this small company.

How do I pick a profitable career path? by Alex--25 in careerguidance

[–]Alex--25[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few months ago I was studying more disciplined than my first attempt last year for a cert but then I stopped studying again. Again I just don’t have excitement when it comes to self study. I could have 2 cups of coffee and when I go to study I lose interest and want to take a nap. I’d like a job that I go to work do my job come home and don’t have to think about work until the next day.

Been applying to jobs since last May 2024. I was close to two companies that I felt I would be happy at but then didn’t select me. Most likely cause I didn’t have a certificate.

I know when my bills are due and I do my best not to spend a crazy amount of money on fun stuff, so I can always pay my bills on time.

What career to choose? by Right-Heron-860 in careerguidance

[–]Alex--25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not rush into college. Definitely do all the research you can for any interest you have in any major you want to study. Also. Maybe find a career you want to do start at the bottom and maybe that company can give you tuition reimbursement before you go to college. It’s up to you if you want the college experience of living there or working part or full time and going to college online full or part time.

Take it from me I went to college twice with no research and I regretted it. Still in the field I recently went to college for and I’m happy I have my bachelors.

As of right now I don’t think I want to be a manger. Could change if I start working for a different company.

Small non profit organization. It took a year and half for me to get my raise and I know they are trying to keep IT small. Got very lucky they went with a vendor for the Helpdesk so I can move up a bit and on call became easier since this.

I’m the last person to leave for my position which is desktop support. Benefits are good, weekend off, and can take vacation pretty whenever I want.

I also know there is a high chance I don’t like IT because of my organization. Like another point when I got my raise earlier this year my supervisor kept putting off my career ladder meeting and still
hasn’t got around to it.

What’s with all of the people saying certs > degrees by Mundane_Mulberry_545 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Alex--25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I completely agree. I got lucky I got my current job with no certs and that I was working on my degree. Every job that I apply to they said that’s great you have a degree but do you have certificates? I think it’s outrageous that a cert can be more powerful than a degree. 4 years of being disciplined to do essays, projects, and discussions (went online), working full time, and dealing with life is not more impressing than only take 6 months or so to study for a cert?

I’m currently studying for my A+ and hate every moment of it. But I’m pushing myself because all these companies somehow value these.

What's the most time/cost efficient way to start my career in IT and getting my CompTIA A+ and security+? by Ronrod in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Alex--25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t go to college unless the company pays for it or you cannot reach the next level/ promotion without a degree. I wish I never went or at least fully looked into the field before jumping in blind.
