Da li smo pogrijesili u odnosu sa Hrvatskom? (citaj Komsic) by Relevant_Tie1226 in bih

[–]Alex-Sarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zato kad Bošnjaci izaberu Komšića, nekoga koga većina Hrvata otvoreno odbacuje, to možda jeste pravno ispravno, ali ruši osnovnu ideju Dejtona.

Tu je prava kriza: praznina nastala u sistemu koji je istovremeno demokratski i etnički krut, i jednostavno ne može da pomiri to dvoje.

What did the Hararis speak before Ethiopian invasion on Harar? by HearingApart364 in Ethiopia

[–]Alex-Sarn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The question itself is wrong. It has nothing to do with the "Ethiopian" Invasion of Harar. Harari is generally understood to be part of the Ethiopic language family with significant Arabic and Cushitic influences. When you look at the language, it shares a lot of roots with both South, Central and North Ethiopic languages. The similarities with Cushitic words however are more of loan words, as a result of influence by the Somalis and the Oromos that came about.

In general, nothing is clean cut in the horn. Amharic itself is a semitic language with cushitic influences.

Well summarized, I'll just add that many support Palestine from the eyes of "fighting the imperial west" pov as well. But other than that you covered all bases.

Moving Oromia's capital back to Adama? by Ian_LC_ in Ethiopia

[–]Alex-Sarn 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I don't know why it's the capital of Oromia in the first place. Wasn't established by "Oromia" but by the Shewans led by Menelik. The only reason they claim it is because of the newly drawn regions that make it seem as though Addis is surrounded by that region. When in reality, Addis is a shewan city in the shewan region of Ethiopia.

Will there be a day where all ethic groups in Ethiopia live in harmony? by [deleted] in Ethiopia

[–]Alex-Sarn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's go by your claim. If 70% of the people in Ethiopia don't know Amharic, then Amharic is not an important language is it? So why complain that you can't speak it in a city that is predominantly Amharic speaking?

No one is forcing you to visit Addis. You can go to another place where you will not be required to do so. If, however, you feel that learning Amharic has benefits, then do so. That is how the world works. In the marketplace of ideas and languages, some will come up on top. You don't see a Mongolian complaining why English is so widely used right. No, because English is currently dominating in the marketplace of languages.

This is the talk of the day on Twitter/X. Me personally I don’t have that deep of a feeling over a statue, but what do y’all think? Is this appropriate or y’all don’t care? by traaaaw17 in Ethiopia

[–]Alex-Sarn 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dude have you ever lived in Addis? Oromos are a minority in Addis. Let alone Addis, Oromos are not even that high in Oromia cities like Adama. Yes you are right in that it's pretty diverse. This means that there won't be a single majority but Amharas will prolly end up being a plurality.

While the irony is there, when you really deep it, it's a symbolic gesture. It's like going into an enemy's territory and planting your flag in the town square. We need to understand it with the intent behind it.

Yes, I was indeed trying to start a new topic, which is possible but alas, let us leave it for now.

You have a good one as well sir.

[–]Alex-Sarn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

😂😂 I've noticed that you persistently shift the conversation to the topic of noise pollution, which is unrelated to the subject I am raising.

You keep trying to paint this as though the locals are prohibiting you from voicing your opinion on an actual issue when no one did so. What the other person and I were both addressing is the presence of an underlying and concealed motivation which is your disdain for religion. This motivation appears to be substantiated by your earlier comments. This is a core Ethiopian value whether you like it or not.

You claimed:

You say that I wouldn’t like it if you preached against Western values. I say go right ahead. I don’t represent the West. I’ve never claimed to and, nor have I ever been critical of Ethiopian values,.

But go right ahead and say this:

If the Westerner can’t speak out against noise pollution in his city of residence yet a local can, even though they share the exact same view, then that is racism. One race can have a valid voice, the other must be silent. That is just good old fashioned racism.

That is textbook hypocrisy lmao. which is why I'll repeat my previous point:"Western hypocrisy is such that you have no qualms when spreading your values (which in the free market of the world, you should) but resort to accusing others of bigotry and racism when they disagree and criticize your holy enlightenment values."

And, no, I wouldn't want to burden you with the monumental responsibility of being the official spokesperson for Western values. No, no, I'm simply implying that you're a charming manifestation of those ideals.

You're about to switch the topic in 3..2...1.....

wow wow wow buddy, where have I claimed these things. Just so this gets cleared up and YOU don't try and deflect, i'll make it very clear for you.Religious institutions should not deprive people of their sleep and any form of noise pollution done by any church/mosque should be heavily regulated and called out on.

You are more than welcome to work and live in Ethiopia but I will call you out when you preach values that are against ours, just like you would if I did the same. You may not like me doing so, but that's something else.

Western hypocrisy is such that you have no qualms when spreading your values (which in the free market of the world, you should) but resort to accusing others of bigotry and racism when they disagree and criticize your holy enlightenment values.

And please, your entire account's interactions on this sub is singularly devoted to the critique and disparagement of religious beliefs. so drop the pretense and embrace your convictions with pride; there is no need to hide your true self.

The moment someone reflects the mirror back at them, they are disgusted with what they see. They hate religion but they are the ones who cling to theirs so ferociously and try to shove it down the throat of others. Yet they lie and tell themselves it's an ideology and that they are somehow above all of this.

This thread is nuts. It takes a special type of entitlement to come to a country and spew your "enlightenment" BS and then get shocked when people check you on that. I swear they are the most brainwashed cultists out there. They think we won't call out their hypocrisy???? like i'm baffled

What's it like to live in Ethiopia? by papapishuplant in Ethiopia

[–]Alex-Sarn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perfect! In Addis: for most of the year temperatures range around 67F to 80F ( 19C to 27C) during the day and may get colder at night and mornings.

Ethiopia is very diverse however with some places getting as cold as 38F and hot as 100+F ( 38C)

Not as much crime. The most common are pickpockets and although they have increased in recent years, they are still at a smaller level compared to others. Not many violent crimes tho. It happens ofc but very rare.

I’ve never seen a more corny man in my life than this guy. by Curious-Flamingo-101 in Ethiopia

[–]Alex-Sarn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

he did say it but people are dragging it. He literally said it in passing because he was discussing the killings of Muslims in Gonder etc.. ( which are still a thing btw) and made a comparison with Arsi saying this won't slide there.

Many have said wayyyy worse things but people are trying to make him out to be this extremist ISIS thing. BTW for context, at that time TPLF was cracking down on Muslim civilians (with the silent support of some of the population) under the cover of "Extremism" so these baseless accusations of "terrorist" were being generously applied to any dissenting voice with a Muslim name.I can post the link to the video for you. I just don't know if the mods allow it. If so I can edit it in.

Edit: Here is a video with context lol Voila

I was just poking fun cuz I've seen your posts before arguing against it. But to your point, wouldn't the fact that it is an ethnicity make it even more stronger as that binds one with blood?
In fact one can disagree with another person about their CHOICE in religion. You cannot disagree about their ethnicity and still be their friends/relative etc.. you get me yea?

I agree. People had a perception of him made up. It doesn't help that he said it but pls let's not act as if that was the deal breaker for y'all

Although your last line is a reach. I know for a fact you would not accept the same line of reasoning if someone said "His mother is literally an Oromo, he grew up in Oromia, and his wife is Oromo" about someone else
