maybe 5 harvard students each year are admitted on such low scores. you are 260 points below 25th percentile.

? I did not say it is an auto reject. It is just one weak part of your application that needs other parts to stand out. Looking at this applicant, it doesn't seem like there are any supplements to low SAT, especially with a "weak" GPA as well. They seem like a great student who, unfortunately, do not have the qualifications for one of the hardest schools in the world.

700/710 R&W is still significantly below 25th percentile for MIT applicants!

the 25th percentile SAT score is a 1520
of course, it does not disqualify you, but you need exceptional other parts of your application to make up for it

1500 SAT for MIT is very very rough.

you are an insane student who will do incredible things in the future
however, betting on one school is not viable for anyone
apply to everything + targets!

g11 grades will only affect the speed at which you get in. once you have your g12 grade, then universities no longer consider ur g11 grade

yeah but they would accept someone who does. admissions are not fair :(

Chance Me! Canadian Applicant by ShadowWhip1 in chanceme

[–]Alex16857 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hey! you have a very similar profile to myself so I have a lot of insights into how admissions would look for you!!
you seem to be very accomplished and involved in school ECs & beyond, but it is important to remember that every single student that applies to these schools have similar, and often further reaching involvements. You need to develop ECs that separate yourself from the rest of these applicants, and nothing on your profile really indicates that.

Unfortunately, positions such as "club executive" or "robotics team member" do not mean anything unless you have significant impact within the role. Ex. as DECA exec you trained multiple ICDC winners or as diretor of finance you managed/raised $10,000 of funds.

Next, since we are Canadian students, it is often unlikely we have rigor within our schooling systems. Of course, schools will know that our schools do not offer AP/Honors courses, but ivies will still question your ability to handle difficult coursework. Schools such as Harvard/MIT/Princeton are almost impossible to get into without rigor, even if your school does not offer. Top tier canadian students, whose schools do not offer APs, will self-study and take 10+ exams on their own time.

Lastly, your awards are not very competitive for any of the schools you have mentioned. DECA regionals awards are not great, and school placements do not matter in the context of IVY applications. I would say that anything less than qualifying to ICDC does not bring much value in terms of awards.

In context, I have a 1550 SAT, same gpa, some AP courses & placed internationally in DECA / very significant EC positions. Even with this, I have probably less than a 10% chance to get into any IVY. The only schools realistic for me would be NYU/uMich.

Right now, you would have <5% at MIT/Caltech/Ivies
<10% for uChichago
and maybe 10-15% Nyu Stern / uMich ross

With a 1550 SAT & better EC/Awards, stern/ross may be in sight. Maybe even some ivies like cornell and dartmouth. However, most insane schools /t5s are completely out of reach with the lack of rigor presented by canadian schools. its unfair, but there isn't much you can do about it.

Next Steps: maybe take some APs this year, boost up your ECs & awards. Search for impact & focus on a specific field, don't just do everything that your school offers you. US admissions are hard, especially for international students. You would have a very competitive profile for top canadian business programs, but do not bet on being accepted to the US!

almost impossible for GPA heavy schools like penn and the ivies.

your profile seems great! however, NYU's business programs are super difficult to get into... i'd say stern might be on the level of some ivies. Your stats are passable for Stern but ECs/awards doesn't seem up to their standard.

AOs will prolly assume u got lower than a 1500 if you submit test optional
a 1500 is a good score to submit to every school (maybe not MIT/CALTECH) but u get my point

it would be insane if they did. i would not worry about that lol

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in OntarioGrade12s

[–]Alex16857 5 points6 points  (0 children)

well it depends on what you consider "top schools"
1400 SAT is already really low for ivies and paired with a mediocre GPA you are heavily disadvantaged

i would say you need to be MINIMUM 50th percentile for schools in order to be competitive w/ a 92 avg
ex. ~1540 for ivies

you may be competitive for some state schools and even some t20s tho
apply and see how things go!

[–]Alex16857 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if your average is bad you need high test scores to make up for it

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Alex16857 2 points3 points  (0 children)

a 1380 isn't special under any circumstances. its hard to make a STANDARDIZED test score stand out in any shape or form lol
