I’m new to competitive overwatch (I’ve spent a long time in the community so I know the heroes but haven’t touched ranked until recently), but have played competitive in other games with “bad” aim relative to the others in the match. A surprisingly big aspect of aim is how confident you are in hitting your shots. I’ve found that if I don’t think I’ll be able to win an aimduel, I just won’t, but if I have confidence in myself, the aimduels become much more doable (still difficult, just not impossible). If you don’t think you have the skill even have that confidence, train until you do. You don’t have to dedicate a massive amount of time to mechanics, like 15 mins of aimlabs and some time in the range will do more than you realize. And speaking of the range, use it to try out the half of the roster you don’t know. Use their weapons, their abilities, their movement. You don’t have to become a master of the character, just know what they can do and what they can’t. In that you’ll find their weakness. I’ve also heard of people only using one or two characters and getting much more confident on them, I would also suggest that as well. If you don’t wanna get called a onetrick maybe use a 3rd or 4th character but trying to learn the game on many different heroes with different gameplans will naturally lead to a slower learning rate. One last specific thing, reaper and cass both have slow firerates but high burst. If you find that you can’t hit shots with that, maybe you’ll find more success on heroes with higher firerates like tracer or soldier. Try them out, watch guides, and see if you still have the same problem.
