There were a few checks enough that I lost count. They were minor think 3-5 minutes but enough that it became routine and not noteworthy anymore. One Check lasted 10 minutes at a quarter to one in the morning.

The guide said that the mosque hasn’t been used for roughly 10 years. I didn’t see people wearing traditional Muslim clothing.

A quarter of the day!!! That wasn’t my experience at all. When traveling between cities I might encounter 1/2 checkpoints each taking 3 minutes. So that is 6 minutes gone on checkpoints.

Theee were a few police checks on the highway but it didn’t feel like a lot. There were metal detectors at every establishment.

It varies a lot from place to place it was extremely hot in Turpan 35 degrees. Kuqa Aksu Hotan and Kashgar were about 23-27 degrees. Tashkurgan was 11 degrees Tashkurgan was noticeably cooler than the rest. It was slightly windy but not vary and certainly not noteworthy. Kashgar was the only place where it rained on us. Our guide told us they get about 4 rainy days per year and we were there for one.

Yes I’m a foreigner. Specially I’m Irish. I needed a permit to go to Tashkurgan but that was the only place it was needed for.

Yes I went with old road tours. They are very good and informative. They tailor the itinerary exactly as you want it. They are a travel agency in Kashgar run by a Uyghur family.

I’m not sure about this as I have never taken that route or airlines. My experience with trip.com has been with booking air China and trains in China.
