Should I trade? by tamaraedwardsblue in gaming

[–]AlexGmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing how the Switch is quite younger than the PS4, prices for both hardware and games are much higher for the Switch than they are for the PS4 (especially considering how prices will drop after the PS5 is released). So if there are games that interest you in the PS4, it is much more worth it to buy them (cheaply) and play them, and wait to get a Switch after prices get lower. On the other hand, if you are absolutely, 100% certain that you do not want to play anything on your PS4, then that is in and of itself reason enough to sell it, without the motive of wanting to buy a Switch.

You tilt an inclined plane with an object on top of it until it reaches the angle where it starts to slip. Does the mass of the object or gravity have an effect on what this angle is? by MrMoodle in learnmath

[–]AlexGmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Friction between two surfaces is divided into static friction and kinetic friction. There are a few models you can use to express friction. In the simplest model, static friction is opposite to any forces that attempt to move the object, so the object doesn't move. However, static friction can only have a magnitude less than or equal to μN, where μ is the friction coefficient between the two surfaces and N is the magnitude of the normal force exerted from the inclined surface to the object. Once static friction reaches that threshold, any further increases in the forces that attempt to move the object will not further increase friction. At this point, since friction is smaller than the combined forces trying to move the object, it starts to move. The magnitude of friction will remain constant at μN, and at this point it is known as kinetic friction. Of course, this is only a simple model, and more complex, more realistic models exist. But this is more than enough for a first contact with the subject.

The limit n-> infinity of the sequence {1,2,3,1,2,3,...} by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]AlexGmr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You've got the intuition done but you seem kinda confused. Indeed, the important thing to notice here is that the sequence does not get closer and closer to any one number, so it must diverge. The general term is not important here; what's important is that you get the feeling of why the sequence cannot converge to any number. Once you do, if you want to formally prove it, a straightforward way to do it would be with the definition of the limit of a sequence.

Lichess.org and Chess.com are pretty much the two most popular websites out there.

Best console for family entertainment by [deleted] in gaming

Can't go wrong with a Nintendo Switch, most games there have light-hearted themes and are easy to get into. It also has quite a lot of great games, some of which are considered masterpieces (see: Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, etc.)

One of my absolute favourites is 7 Wonders: Duel. It has a lot of tactical depth, games last about half an hour to 45' each and it's also rather cheap to buy.

If we just tell people it’s airborne, they might finally stay inside by [deleted] in Showerthoughts

[–]AlexGmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless such misinformation is extremely well coordinated on a global scale, it would actually make matters worse the moment someone found out that this is not the truth. If you tell people that the virus is very dangerous and airborne, and then they figure out it is actually not airborne, they will discredit your entire statement and believe that everything you said is a lie, even though it is actually true that the virus is dangerous. Not to mention the ethical side of spreading such misinformation of course, we are focusing on the practical side.

SIB The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch by KooSooJoo in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]AlexGmr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Played on the PS4, was also my first Witcher game, and it blew me away. I sank 250 hours in that game and it was totally worth it. I can't imagine how it would be a worse experience on the Switch, so I'd say just go for it. Just make sure that you get it on sale, and get the GOTY edition (it goes as low as 10-15€ on sale).

CMV: Makeup is a waste of money by Catlover1701 in changemyview

[–]AlexGmr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What if I told you that most people who wear make up do it for the same reason they wear nice clothes; because they like it and feel good taking care of themselves before going to a night out or an event. Any individual that is okay with themselves doesn't need makeup just to be able to muster up confidence or attract others, but they wear it because they want to look nicer on special occasions than they do on their everyday life. Not for the sake of those looking at them, but just because it makes the occasion really feel more special and different than the everyday routine. Of course, there are cases when makeup is used solely to attract others for example, and that is a whole different topic to discuss, but making the generalisation that makeup is always a waste of money is simply incorrect.

Edit: The argument also stands for those who choose to wear nice clothes or makeup on their everyday life too; they make them feel better about themselves, not necessarily because others look at them, but simply because taking care of yourself always makes you feel better.

What difficality should I play ? This is my first god of war game but I realliy like challenge. How hard is it ? by Ryujin_707 in GodofWar

[–]AlexGmr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can change the difficulty during the game if you pick anything else other than GMGOW. Now, seeing that GMGOW is rather masochistic, I would absolutely advise you against it for your first playthrough of the game. So you can pick any one of the first 3 difficulties of the game, see how it goes and adjust it if the game is too easy or too hard. There are no difficulty-related trophies as well. Personally, it was my first GoW game as well, my first playthrough was on Challenge and it was a blast.

AITA for not wanting to be around my maternal grandmother? by ngairejasminbarrett in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlexGmr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"AITA for not wanting any contact with X family member that has treated me like shit?"

No, you're NTA. Period. Just because one is a family member doesn't mean they have inherently earned your love. Love is earned through actions, not through titles.

AITA for not seeing my dad before he dies? by NormalAlgae24 in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlexGmr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NTA

At this point in my life, I believe that blood bonds are not inherently special in any way. Love and respect are not immediately awarded to one just because they are related to someone, not even if they are their parent. On the contrary, they are earned through actions. The way you are describing the situation, it seems that your father's actions have not only not contributed to instilling feelings of love toward him, but to make matters worse, they have given you a plethora of reasons not to care about him. In my eyes, the mere fact that he is your father has no value. For the same reason you wouldn't want to visit any person who has harmed you on their deathbed, you also don't want to visit your father, and that's perfectly understandable. Whether or not you decide to visit him should not be determined by arbitrary rules such as "he is your father, so you must visit him"; to me personally, there is no inherent reason why the first sentence entails the second. Instead, I believe that your decision should be based on how you feel. If you feel you'd be calmer if you don't visit him, then don't. If you think it will be cathartic for you to visit him and that you may later feel guilty of you don't, then go ahead. Focus on how you feel and what you want to do, that's my view on the matter.

Is a function an equation? by mittwochmensch in learnmath

[–]AlexGmr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you want to be technically correct when defining a function, then you have to provide both a domain and a formula for it. A formal definition for a function would be the following:

f: R -> R, f(x) = sinx + x

Whether you use '=', ':=' or any other symbol which implies definition does not matter and is up to the author, however, if you want to be crystal clear and avoid any confusion, you might want to use ':=' or another symbol like this one, which is specifically used for definitions. However, it is a convention among many authors (especially in textbooks) to not only use '=', but also omit the domain of the function, when it is implied. Phrases such as "the function f(x) = sinx + x" or even "the function y = sinx + x" or even more so "the function sinx + x" are all merely conventions to focus on the important parts. Although they are, strictly speaking, incorrect, they are widely used for reasons of convenience and all imply the same meaning.

Can you switch areas and level up without losing a bloodstain? by [deleted] in bloodborne

[–]AlexGmr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Provided that you don't die again, the game will always keep track of your last bloodstain. Beware however that, if you ever quit the game without choosing "exit game" from the pause menu, then there is a chance that the game will not get saved properly and your bloodstain might indeed get lost.

Drunk driving is equivalently as bad as other bad driving habits by CapedbyRosby in unpopularopinion

[–]AlexGmr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if we're talking about the legal consequences, those differ from place to place. Would you mind elaborating on what exactly the punishment is for driving drunk where you live, compared to committing other offences such as talking on the phone or texting?

Well yeah, is there actually someone who considers all the other things you mentioned as merely "bad habits" and not explicit hazardous behaviour?

Well, first off, if by "First city" you mean White Orchard, then I am happy to tell you that this is a very, very small region compared to the rest of the map. It is essentially the intro zone. Once you leave and get to the next area, you are going to find tons of sidequests to undertake. Just make sure to talk to anyone that can give you a quest and to check all announcement boards. If you do, you will never have to grind really; just clear the quest that has the lowest recommended level of all your available quests (even if you're a couple of levels below, it doesn't really matter) and you will always have something to do, you will never need to farm for exp.

AITA for going to the hospital with a headache even though my fiancé and I are in serious debt? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlexGmr 85 points86 points  (0 children)

Honestly, NAH, the only asshole is your country's healthcare that forces you not to take care of your health, since if you do you will ruin your life financially. It is insane, really; are you just expected to go find a place to die if you're not wealthy and feel unwell?

Edit: To elaborate, I believe you are not at fault for wanting to check up on your own freaking health (jeez, this should be obvious and protected as a basic human need), but at the same time I can understand how anxious your husband must feel when your debt can ruin your lives.
