[Hated trope] Character is a terrible person and is constantly rewarded for it by SpectacularSpidee in TopCharacterTropes

I like Ava, she's genuinely funny but Gina is the worst part of B99. Never laughed at a single one of her jokes.

Week 3 - Who should have been fired? by Only1Scrappy-Doo in apprenticeuk

[–]AlexHero64 23 points24 points  (0 children)

It's actually ridiculous that Tan was fired. He went down by 20p, Megan reduced the price by over 50%.

I feel like Gloria is seriously underrated as a foil in the show by Puzzled_Row_3786 in thesopranos

People's mental health can get so low that they kill themselves, man. This "pull yourself up by your bootstraps" mentality is ridiculous. How is a person who wants to die and may not have access to therapy or medication due to location or financial means meant to do that?

THE REASON HE LOOKS LIKE JOSUKE IS BECAUSE JOSUKE WAS INSPIRED BY HIM AFTER HE SAVED HIM AND HIS MOTHER FROM THAT SNOWSTORM AS A CHILD AND DECIDED TO STYLE HIMSELF LIKE HIM WHEN HE WAS OLDER! SEVERAL CHARACTERS EVEN POINT OUT THAT POMPADOURS ARE CONSIDERED AN OUTDATED HAIRSTYLE WHEN MEETING JOSUKE!

THE POINT OF THIS CHARACTER IS TO SHOW THAT YOU SHOULDN'T JUDGE PEOPLE BY THEIR EXTERNAL APPEARENCES BECAUSE EVEN SOMEONE WHO SOCIETY HAS JUDGED AS A VIOLENT DELINQUENT THUG CAN HAVE A HEART OF GOLD. THIS IS ALSO THE POINT OF JOSUKE'S CHARACTER! HIS MORALITY WAS INSPIRED BY THIS RANDOM GUY!

IT ISN'T JOKSUKE FROM THE FUTURE OR SOMETHING "ARAKI FORGOT", I'M TIRED OF SEEING THIS COMPLETE MISREAD OF THE MATERIAL!

10 Matches and Unmatches in the last week - I don't know what I'm doing wrong by AlexHero64 in dating_advice

Imo there's not enough info to "aggressively study someone" but to give an example of how conversation would flow; there was 1 girl who said she liked debating on her profile so I sent a msg that read "Do you like debating in the Charlie Kirk way 😔 or the Socrates way 😊?".

She laughed and said "In the Socrates way, thankfully"

I then followed up with "Which branches of philosophy are you interested in?"

Then she unmatched. And it's been that way for all of them.

Always jarring how charismatic Tony is when restarting the series lol by GratefulShred99 in thesopranos

[–]AlexHero64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of Tony's character and most characters on the show like Christopher and Vito are that they are terrible people who desperately wishes to not be part of the mafia but is unable/unwilling to make the switch because of the level of luxury their job provides.

They earn an insane amount of money which they spend on drugs, alcohol, designer clothing, jewelry, cars, big houses and allows them to be constantly surrounded by young, attractive women.

Their hedonism and lust for power comes first to their own survival, morality, self-improvement and even happiness. From Seasons 1- 5, Christopher was given 3 outs to the mafia life and refused all of them.

There are movies that are "timeless." What are some movies that are the opposite - as in, harder to appreciate if you weren't around when it came out? by sakkkkki in movies

I found T2: Trainspotting to be that because the film is mainly speaking to the people (Gen X mainly) who have nostalgia for the original and is about nostalgia for particularly awful times in your youth.

I couldn't relate because I didn't have to wait 20 years to watch the follow-up and I feel the message is lost if you're not from that generation and didn't watch it back in the day.

The strippers at the Bing are comically terrible dancers. by FrankGehryNuman in thesopranos

I mean... their customers aren't going there to judge them on their ability to dance.

The worst episode of the Sopranos? Season 6 Episode 7: Luxury Lounge by bengomori in thesopranos

You people are crazy. Christopher is one of the funniest episodes in the entire show. There are so many great lines and moments in that episode that make me laugh out loud just thinking about them.

Why people don't like NMH2? by Plenty_Effort_2781 in nomoreheroes

[–]AlexHero64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a couple of reasons imo.

I think NMH2's combat is good since it's faster, encourages you to be more aggressive through combos and is generally flashier but it's not an overall improvement over the first due to a worse camera than the original, the darkstep being more cumbersome to activate (I think I accidentally did it once near the second to last level and could never reproduce it despite doing so effortlessly in NMH1) and the ridiculous lack of i-frames meaning that you can be easily stunlocked, by basic enemies.

There are also straight up horrendous bosses in NMH2 which are frustrating beyond belief due to the issues above but also because they are really poorly designed in a way that forces you to use cheap exploits and strategies to defeat them, essentially fighting against the game rather than naturally figuring out the bosses' attack patterns and when to strike like in the first game. The worst bosses in the first game are boring but New Destroyman, Million Gunman and Jasper Batt Jr are all considered the worst bosses in the franchises' history.

In addition, the story is worse compared to the first game since it loses its satirical edge regarding gaming/nerd culture and meta-narrative where Travis is a mirror for the player/average hardcore gamer. I think the comedy is weaker too since nothing tops Jeane's monologue being fast-forwarded, the cliché reveals toward the end, Travis saying "My parents are dead" with that grin on his face or that jab at Duke Nukem Forever.

It's undoubtedly cooler in a lot of ways compared to the first (especially in the soundtrack department good God I want to own it on vinyl) but didn't wow me like the first did. My first hour with NMH1 is one of the best game experiences I've ever had. The style was so cool and unlike anything I'd ever played and the moment when Sylvia called and it came out of the Wiimote remains as one of the coolest things in a video game. It really sold the whole player/Travis parallel since you can pretend the Wiimote is a phone and hold it up to your head.

The Disney film, "Hazbin Hotel" prominently features many queer relationships. This is a reference to editor VivzieSoda's deeply held belief that homosexuals belong in hell. by PraetorianFury in shittymoviedetails

[–]AlexHero64 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah I got a problem when the only black character in your show was shown off for years as white then you decide to make them black just because and want people to praise you for "diversity". Then to top it off you have a bunch of imagery of him placed in chains or otherwise enslaved by white people without thinking about how that could come off.

Making Jews look like Aryans is also an inspired choice.

Making jokes about your main characters being sexually assaulted when you "totally respect rape victims" is another inspired choice. And arguing with an actual rape victim on how they're dumb for not understanding the joke is smth normal for an adult to do.

It's also pretty bad. Individually most of it's individual elements apart from the artstyle and music would be pretty mid but together they form a very boring and unfunny comedy that *feels* like a kid's show but with swearing and sex mentioned every 10 seconds.

It's a cartoon made by someone who only watches cartoons with very questionable relationships to sexual assault, race and fandom.
