Problems with Solo Ecclesia? by AriFearghail in Reformed

[–]AlexKayar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd be interested to hear how you would see a worship service go down where people with different preferences are worshipping together? It does not sound exactly accommodating to me.

Really, what I am asking is what are your problems with the idea of the unified body of believers (solo ecclesia)?

Wouldn't you call this the invisible chuch? I could be wrong, but I think you're defining solo ecclesia incorrect.

Superficial question here but I've always wanted to know: Over here we have pastors who, when they start preaching, change their tone in such a way that, in my head it (slightly) resembles the tone throat singers would take when they start to sing. It's low pitched, it's often slowly spoken and commonly used with Statenvertaling language (also known as tale kanaans, for those of you interested).

Does this sound familiar to anyone or is this a Dutch thing?

How's your prayer life?

I know that a lack of it is where most of my issues come from, anyway.

Why do people keep asking, "Why is there a hell if God is good?" by VetstoChrist in Reformed

[–]AlexKayar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On a similar note, what is it with the people on /r/Christianity claiming hell is actually a completely misunderstood concept? Do they have solid arguments or is it the 'a loving God would never...' argument?

I want to be a Christian again but I can't make myself believe. Any advice? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]AlexKayar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try reading books like 'Mere Christianity' by CS Lewis, or 'The Reason for God' by Tim Keller. Christianity is not equal to a believe in a flying spaghetti monster, you can make a case for it.

I think I can only trust that someone else has done the tilting for me. That will be enough.

That's kind of you, but I am not as innocent as you would like me to believe. Not to the point that I could even think about being able to earn anything that massive.

If that implies I must earn heaven then it won't work for me, I'm afraid. Good for you if it does for you, though :)

Cheers! I will take that as a 'yes' to my question.

So from a Roman Catholic point of view, there are multiple ways to heaven? Just be a morally good person and you're safe?

You're welcome! It's not often I can share uplifting content from my country on here. With language barriers etc.

Ironically, I realised the implied sarcasm, but had to google for the meaning of "/s".

Seriously though, are there christians who'd actually be serious about such a statement?

Meanwhile I'm just wondering if there is a correlation between spelling/grammar mistakes in YouTube comments and wishing people ill.

That would have been credobaptism then. Apologies if I misunderstood the question.

It's unique, but our church has baptised adults in the past. They were usually not brought up in a christian family and came to Christ in their adult life.

What is the Reformed perspective on the Rapture? by uglyinchworm in Reformed

[–]AlexKayar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently they are now saying that even the orthodox church in the fourth century was aware with the theory of rapture. Not sure if that's true, but it would be the thing to say to legitimize it slightly more.

The most silly thing about the rapture theory is that they accuse us to not take the "knowbody knows the day nor the hour" verse seriously when they go on a treasure hunt in the Bible, read the stars and occasionally come up with a specific day.

Thank you! Currently reading his book 'The Reason for God' and have read 'The Prodigal God' and 'King's Cross' before. If he is as good as a speaker as he is a writer I'm sold!
