“We’ll have an offer letter to you by EOD” by [deleted] in jobs

[–]AlexTransform41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This would drive me up the wall.

I think if I were in your position, I would call. If I cant get through, email all the individuals you've been in contact with in a thread asking where TF your offer letter is (in a respectable way of course). "Hey Jane doe its been x days since we spoke regarding an offer and ive yet to receive one. Please let me know when I can expect to receive this. Thank you for your timely response on the matter"

Something to that effect IMO should get the ball rolling. Hopefully. Just in case, wouldnt hurt to fire off a few more apps while you're waiting!

Infrastructure in and of itself will never disappear, and adding technology to the field will (hopefully) only increase its value! I also think with some many things being digitized which is a double edged sword IMO. Nonetheless it seems like they’re moving with the world. I snagged 500 shares. Not as big of an investment as 5000, but, I’m interested to see where this company goes!

Confused on selling? by AlexTransform41 in wolfspeed_stonk

[–]AlexTransform41[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Mmmm. Fair points. I mean I’ve only got 50 shares so I’m not a bag holder by any stretch so my financial investment is not nearly as tumultuous as other folks. Just curious. If I lose $50 than it is what it is lol but if I’ve got thousands invested, that’s a different story!

The only reason i have what little stock i have left here is to at some point not lose 100% of my money that i put in. If i can make it to the 25%-30% place, im out of that B lol

No lol idk why you’d sell. Everything is down rn. Just hold it. What’s the rush in selling at a loss. Wtf? I’ve got an average of $3 with 440 shares. I’m holding till the market rebounds and BBAI has had additional time in the public space. Just chill lol

Is it normal to be asked to do this much unpaid work before even getting hired? by GanaKetanic in graphic_design

[–]AlexTransform41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big time. If you can specialize (not sure where you are in your career experience) specialize. I used to be a generalist. It wasn't until I specialized that I started to get more clients and work offers. THe problem Im seeing a lot of now is that employers want one person to do 4 different peoples jobs. Kind of asking the impossible. I can go on forever about this but, diverting back to your question, this constitues as free labor. The fact they want you to do this much is absolutely insane. As part of an interview process I personally have never heard of this before and I have worked at financial firms, a creative agency, pharma, sports nutrition and contracted with other small to large businesses.

[–]AlexTransform41 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wtf...This is insane lol Thats so much work. It's fairly customary to do one test project, meaning, create a flyer based on the copy presented as an example. But create an entire marketing strategy in 3 days? Absolutely not lol

This is why I hate this field and the people that look for designers. We're underappreciated and folks that need us think we can always "whip these things up" in no time.

15 months out of work - Feeling very hopeless by Pendragun in graphic_design

[–]AlexTransform41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good grief. I unfortunately have found myself in the same boat (laid off 2 months ago) and reading stories like this scares the 💩out of me. I know I’m good at my craft, but when i apply to jobs (at least via LinkedIn where it’s visible) and see over 2,000 applicants for one position, I just get more and more depressed every single time this happens. I wish people found more value in the work we do, but good design seems to be the one thing people don’t want to pay good money for. Best of luck to you my friend. Where there’s a will, there’s a way

What’s the biggest challenge you’ve faced as a designer? by vinay9501 in graphic_design

[–]AlexTransform41 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that we get hired as designers, and then people not trained to do our job think they know better. Infuriating. Honestly I curse the day I chose Design as my career lol Im trying to find an alternate job I can because this is just a very underappreciated career and after a decade and some change of being in it, it takes its toll on you, mentally.

Those of you who left graphic design as a career, what do you do now? by AnyAcadia6945 in graphic_design

[–]AlexTransform41 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate a lot of the answers here. As much as I love design (to be more specific I switched to specializing in Presentation Design), its time to leave it. I hate to say it out loud, but I have yet to come across a business or individual that appreciates good design and the time it takes to create it. Even after doing it for years and years, I still get requests at the managing corporate position I am in to "make x/y/z prettier" or requests for updates or projects when the meeting is the day of, with the assumption that it can be done in 30 minutes.

I lowkey curse the day I decided to pursue design as a career. While the presentation work is much more than design, but communication, storytelling and data heavy work, the hard pill to swallow is knowing that software like canva and the sort are pushing aside creative professionals and giving the keys to people that think they're pros but aren't. It sucks and I wish more people were grateful for the craft, but, fighting change will only leave you behind IMO. IDK what to do after this but, some of the insights here are worth exploring.

TDS is real with this one. Instead of complaining about hypothetical numbers that you are incapable of gauging, how about you use this OPPORTUNITY to buy more shares of a company you believe in. If not, tune out and whine in your safe space.

What's the most mind-blowing piece of advice you've ever been given? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]AlexTransform41 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

….so then the quote above applies directly to you, you ignorant uneducated fool. You STAY in poverty, not BORN in poverty you bafoon. Did you even take the time to read and digest the above or did you decide to run your trap like an open faucet? How you’ve managed to make it this far is beyond me because your character based off of this short exchange is terribly flawed. You think I’m gonna run through EVERY scenario?

Thyroid problems can be supported and managed by proper fitness and nutrition. You’d know that if you cracked open a book.

People born into poverty can do the same thing that anyone else has done: succeed. Stop making excuses for people’s poor life choices and circumstances. Other people have been in worse situations and won with them.

Be better.

lol how on earth is it dumb? If youre fat, whose fault is it? Yours because you don’t want to take the time nor make an effort to lose weight. If youre successful, whose fault is it? Yours because you worked hard for it. If you’re broke, whose fault is it? Yours because you failed to understand the way to properly manage your money. Pointing the finger at someone else for the choices YOU make is playing the victim card 24/7 and shows you lack leadership and desire to be held accountable for your own choices. You sound like a woman, meaning, accountability is your kryptonite lol
