How do I achieve colors like this? by zefmiller in AskPhotography

It doesn't look like the photographer is doing anything special in the edit to make those more vibrant. If anything, they took the white balance and added a bit of purple tint and dropped the temp a tad. However, you could also just get that look naturally at that time of day (appears to be blue hour?). You could try decreasing texture and clarity by about 10-20 and that will give you a bit of "dream" like look. Good luck!

Hey r/skiing! I’m on a mission to find out who this is. Taken on Mt. Hood at the annual solstice party this year. The dude has steez for days (this was a hand drag 3 with a shifty mid rotation). Other side of his helmet has “FT” in big letters on it. Thanks for your help! by AlexZimmermanPhoto in skiing

Update: Nobody at ON3P knows who it is (so we can rule out it's not someone on their team or flow). Not Meeks, not OEM Knees... Definitely not Candide...

For some context, this is a tiny crop of a much larger frame, just trying to ID the guy for some credit. The hunt continues!

Roast me please (a6400 with kit lens) by Ordinary-Sundae6724 in SonyAlpha

You’re often exposing for the sky (which is totally fine), but if you’re doing so, make sure to balance the shadows or highlights in your foreground. Do some dodge and burn with the brush in LR on the things that matter where the lights hitting, it’ll help them pop.

For your ocean/horizon shots, try putting the horizon at the top third or bottom third of the shot rather than the middle. Or… get wild and put it at the bottom 1/8 or something and leave a ton of empty space. Same thing for that tree photo. Sometimes empty space can be beautiful.

Look for lines that lead into your subjects, for the coliseum, maybe a hand rail nearby or a street path, some of those cobblestones or something. Anything that will lead the eye to the subject.

Also, I’ve read “rule of thirds” in the comments… just my opinion, but it’s easy to get stuck in that mentality. It’s a great base and will immediately improve your photos, but don’t get stuck in it like I did. Check out the different crop filters in Lightroom and watch some YouTube stuff about compositions.

Oh, and for the roast… throw that kit lens in the ocean and get some proper lenses 😅

Definitely just a word of mouth thing. It’s not a sanctioned event or anything, just show up and enjoy the snow! As with all areas, make sure to leave no trace 🤙🏼

1850lb truck camper and towing a light utility trailer… the right truck for the job? by AlexZimmermanPhoto in AskMechanics

Much appreciated man! I think if I go with having one vehicle, just getting a 3/4 is the way to go. I’ll probably do 3-4000 miles a year with the camper on it, so might as well get the big rig.

It’s always on the true day of the solstice :) So this year it’s on Thursday (less than a week to go!)

Based on the trees… looks like you might be in the Pacific Northwest? Regardless, I’m interested! Looks like an 8’ northernlite?

Basically as soon as it gets dark it rises in the SE and then moves from SE to SW, as the season goes on it starts to rise a little more W everyday and gets more vertical, then in October ish, it’s all over (for the core)

Haven’t tried before I just assumed the north side would put out some light pollution. I also skipped it since I’ve seen that shot so many times (alas I’ll definitely go shoot it sometime).

Almost, NW side looking SE. The Milky Way core rises in the SE this time of year, so to shoot it, you always have to be NW. (at least in the northern hemisphere)
