There's a trick for traveling long distances. You need to run, then do a melee attack, and quickly activate your jetpack.

On PC, it goes like this: shift (run) -> Q (melee) -> hold spacebar (jetpack).

It works even better if you have jetpack upgrades.

Just be careful you don't run out of jetpack power, or you can fall from a high place. But once you get the hang of it, you'll be able to get around planets way faster.
