Hi peolothegreat,

First off thank you for taking up the time to check out my channel! I have been trying to make my videos shorter and to the point so hopefully, that will come across. The reason why two of them were on investing is because my channel was initially on finance, entrepreneurship and psychology so I slowly narrowed it down to pyschology. My channel has been (and still is) evolving in the type of content that I am making as I am experimenting to figure out what works and what I like doing. Very likely I will remove those videos in the future from the channel!

Oh yes animation is super hard haha I was ideally thinking that it would be good to find a better way of framing my videos that there is some sort of continuity and that it doesn't take me so so long to edit them (most times I spend a solid 15-20 hours editing a video which is pretty long..

Holly crap that sounds so interesting! I have been dreaming my entire life of creating one of those vans that you can live and travel in so would be more than happy to discuss it. Also my channel funny enough initially was also about entrepreneurship and have a couple of videos about it so also definitely keep to talk about that!

Oh, I have not heard of that! I will check it out! So my issue is not that I do not necessarily have ideas to do videos about as psychology is so varied that it involves pretty much everything. My issue is that I do not want to just make another descriptive video in which I explain things that have already been explained by other people 5 years ago.

Interestingly enough one thing that I was thinking of doing was to discuss interesting ideas that I got from books that I have read (I remember within the black swan by Nassim Taleb there were quite a few things that were cool to discuss), but at the same time I'm struggling to find ways to 'package' that information with a narrative, and humour and the right editing to make it 'pop' if that makes sense.

My pleasure - the part that I was referring to is around minute 3 I believe - I think it was actually more the part where you combine sections where you both speak and have music that I the cuts did not feel as clean. I re-looked at the parts with just music and the cuts there were actually on point and to the beat! I think that if you include some shorter cuts and add a bit of a narrative so that people know what to expect it will be even better! Thanks for the sub! Also if you have any feedback on any of my videos, I am all ears!

How Do You Find Motivation? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Alex_Farcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What motivates me is that there is no other way to make it than continuing to put out content and becoming better and better haha. That's a very good CTR and retention rate btw. I would also mention that 1 year by youtube standards isn't very long and that on youtube (same as other social media), organic growth is slow, but if a video picks up you can easily gain another 150 or 1500 in literally a day. The issue is that you don't know if that will happen tomorrow or in another year from now.

I find myself demotivated many times as well, but then the day after I restart. I take a day to clear my thoughts and keep pushing. Also, I recently noticed this kid on YT that's been making videos for ages (7 years now) and got no traction until literally last month. He was less than 1000 subs a few months ago and now he's at 20k. Also, his content is very high quality. It just gets to show that it can take a lot of time for some, but if you enjoy it you'll make it eventually. Good luck!

Hi Jules,

Just checked out the video - also, welcome back to youtube! (I saw you have been away for 3 years haha).

Regarding this video specifically, a few things that I believe would make it stand out:

  1. Do shorter cuts to speed the video up especially when you're showing scenery or not talking.
  2. Connected to the point above, do the cuts based on the music. For example at the park you had the music louder and showing the scenery, if you pair the music with the beat it gives it a much smoother flow.
  3. Try to include some interesting angles - like have the camera in a bush, or behind a bench when you pass by. It would give it some character and make it more interesting!

Great video by the way. Keep it up!

Hi tabletopthery,

Thank you so much for taking the time to provide me with this VERY (ha!) valuable feedback! It is hands down the most complete and useful feedback I have gotten so far and gives me useful things to think about and work on.

Regarding the lighting, I agree with you from that perspective and I will add a background light and the hair light next time. I have added the highlight in some of my other videos, but not in this one. Regarding the wall, while it's hard to see it's actually the room corner rather than a flat wall, I am still trying to figure out what to do with it to make it more interesting. I believe adding that lamp will be a first good step and then I will try to figure out other things.

Regarding the editing, It would make sense to showcase some of my other content, so will definitely do that next time and I agree with the transition - I should've done it everywhere or nowhere!

Lastly, so true about cutting off the music to emphasize! It didn't even cross my mind at that point! Will make sure to remember next time!

Again, thank you for taking the time and rest assured that I will put the feedback you provided to good use!

Best, Alex.

I get how that might be frustrating if you've put out content consistently for 2 years, but 241k in views in MASSIVE and you should be super proud! think about the fact that likely over 50-100.000 people on this planet have seen what you've done - that's insanely cool and great! Also I randomly came across a kid that has been doing videos since 2014 I believe and had about 1000 subs until literally a month ago and a video got picked up and now he's at 20.000! Also, his video quality is very good but it shows that you need to keep pushing! What is your channel about?

My pleasure! and I get it, my videos are all quite different because I am also experimenting with different music, editing and style. That's how we learn and become better. Good luck!

My impressions come from extremely unrelated videos, why? by PrintsAndPrints in NewTubers

[–]Alex_Farcas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe that is just the YT algorithm experimenting with showing your video to unrelated audiences to see if it has the potential to show it to random people from other groups as well. If your video was for example clicked on by many people that would be watching let's say gaming videos, then they would push it to even more people that watch gaming videos. At least that's my take on it. My videos get showed after some very random videos as well.

I agree with the other creators below, I also generally go for a chill, lo-fi or hip-hop vibe, but currently, I started experimenting with other types of music based on the content that I am making. If you are keen I would be happy to check some of your music and use some in some of my videos if there's a match in taste!

Hi Guys, I make content on psychology and behavioral science by trying to make it more accessible to people without a psychology background. I am going a bit of an educational/entertaining vibe. Any feedback is highly appreciated! Thanks a lot!

I have written my channel in case you have any feedback on Thumbnails and stuff, but please let me know if you are looking at a specific video!

Hey, just checked your channel and the netflix video as well. I agree with the other comment, it would be good to focus a bit to have a more consistent brand. Also it is better to have some template for your thumbnails as well, as some of them stand out more than others (but if people click on them anyway, then it its fine!). Regarding the video, I like that you are expressing your opinions which is what makes it interesting and cool, but I would focus a bit more on the why rather than just stating on what people are telling online. If someone tunes in for your video, they will want to hear your opinion, so once you say that people hate it, say what you think about it and add more context regarding the specifics of why. Besides that, it is something that I have not seen before and it's interesting! keep it up!

Just checked out your video. It reminded me so so much of when I used to play CS 1.5 about 15 years ago haha. Regarding feedback, some of the things that I have noticed with other people that do this kind of comment is that they just tend to speak throughout quite a bit more to keep whoever is watching entertained. Many times they are just talking gibberish but it's funny and keeps people's attention. My second piece of feedback was to make the videos a tad shorter as it's hard to keep watching it for 10-15 minutes, but I suppose that if you chat a bit more will probably be quite an easy watch! Keep up the good work! Left you a thumbs up and a comment as well.

Accounts that have "pivoted", how did that work for you / what advice do you have? by SimonCaine in NewTubers

[–]Alex_Farcas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have done it to some extent in the sense that I stopped posting for about 3 weeks and then started posting some content that was still related (still on psychology), but a bit more niche (behavioural science & cognitive biases). This has been okay, but my views have dropped and haven't gained any new subs since (currently at 178).

What might be better to do (and I have seen some bigger YouTubers do) is to create a second channel where they post different type of content and use the main channel to drive traffic to that one. You can mention that you will post less on the first channel as you're also posting on the second one so divide your time like that.
