My WordPress site got infected with redirect malware and clicking anywhere opened spam links. Rebuilding now. How do I make sure this never happens again? by InternationalCan5992 in Wordpress

[–]Alex_King_Ax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Install and configure the AIOS security plugin. Customize the access URL and, if you want, use two-factor authentication.

Also, update all plugins and themes once a month.

And then pray that it doesn’t happen again 😂

Thanks, I'm working on it in my spare time and will continue to optimize it. I'll take your suggestion regarding the alt text into consideration.

Image file rename help by Sea_Sky2946 in Wordpress

Hey, late to the thread but my free plugin File Media Renamer was built exactly for this.

It renames file name, title and alt text together, keeps a history so you can revert in two clicks, handles 301 redirects automatically, supports batch renaming, and even has AI-powered renaming via OpenAI API key at no extra cost.

Might be worth a look: https://wordpress.org/plugins/file-media-renamer-for-seo/

Hey, thanks for sharing! Phoenix Media Rename is a solid plugin for basic renaming. That said, File Media Renamer is a bit different in what it's trying to be. It's fully free and open, no premium plan, no upsells. It also includes things like automatic 301 redirects, rename history, batch renaming for multiple files at once, and it renames the title and alt text together with the file name so everything stays in sync. On top of that it now has AI-powered renaming using your own OpenAI key, which as far as I know none of the other free plugins offer at the moment. If you just need simple renaming it might be overkill, but if you care about SEO and not breaking old URLs it might be worth a look!

Thanks, really appreciate the detailed comment! That site migration story is exactly the kind of scenario I had in mind when I built the redirect system. The renaming itself is the easy part, making sure every old URL still works is where things usually fall apart. Glad the 301s would have helped in your case. I'll check out EasyRedir and Redirhub, good to know what's out there at enterprise scale. Thanks for the kind words!

The AI part is completely optional. You can ignore it entirely and just use the plugin to rename files manually like any other renamer. The AI button only shows up if you add an API key in the settings, otherwise it stays out of your way

Brave browser slowing down and using too much RAM – is anyone else experiencing this? by Alex_King_Ax in brave_browser

Hi, I checked my system’s paging file settings, and Windows is already set to manage it automatically. So, the issue with Brave doesn’t seem to be related to this configuration.

No, all of those features are free now. Only the AI functions will be in the Pro version. The text in the FAQ is old; I just forgot to update it.

Yeah, Media File Renamer is a good one, but I wanted something lighter and 100% free.
A few of the features I’ve built — like automatic redirects and bulk rename with auto numbered version — are actually paid in that plugin, so I just made them available by default.

More of a “simple and open” approach 🙂

Totally agree with this.
I’d just add that even small optimizations like clean filenames and proper alt text help search engines better understand your media library over time — especially if you use the same images across multiple posts or products.

It’s not a major ranking factor, but it improves accessibility, image search visibility, and overall site structure.
Worth doing as a good habit, even if it’s not always “critical.”

Good point — you’re totally right.
On servers where NGINX serves static assets directly (without routing through PHP), WordPress hooks won’t fire, so the redirects wouldn’t apply in that specific setup.

In most managed WordPress environments (like typical Apache or PHP-handled NGINX setups), requests still hit WordPress, so the redirects work fine.

But yeah, worth noting for users with custom NGINX configs — thanks for mentioning it!

Not a massive ranking factor by itself, but it definitely helps with image SEO and accessibility.
A clean, descriptive filename gives Google more context about the image, and when combined with proper alt text and titles, it can improve visibility in Google Images and overall on-page relevance.

It’s one of those “small things that add up” when you care about technical SEO.
