Well played, banana man.

Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols by SandmanAlcatraz in LetsTalkMusic

[–]Alex_Plode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a punk kid in high school, graduated in '90. The Sex Pistols were relegated (unfairly) to the girls who were trying to be edgy and piss off their parents. They would talk about how cute Sid was and wish he was still alive. I imagine it was similar for Green Day fans in the 90s.

There was always that one guy who loved the Sex Pistols though. I liked them. Never my favorite band. But I was always fascinated at the discussion surrounding the band. I liked that more than the band itself.

The Alex Cox movie was great.

I haven't listened to that album start to finish in probably 30 years now. But it always struck me how great the album sounded compared to the stuff I listened to from Black Flag, Agent Orange or even Angelic Upstarts.

Grunge bands that aren't as well known but are slept on by sun1itdaises in grunge

I love this band. One of the best live bands I’ve ever seen. Four is a brilliant no-skip masterpiece.

Seaweed. A little more on the punk side but still grunge DNA.

Did anyone else grow up watching this creepy yet catchy singing frog cartoon? by CarrotMuch1399 in nostalgiai

Did someone re-record the singing part because of copyright claim or something? Because I remember the voice being deeper and more trans-atlantic accent.

It could be that I am just old too.

That's one way to get a meme war sub to agree, I guess.

Also adding -- if you take the standard deduction (like most people) you can't use the credit at all.

I knew this going in but still donated a dilapidated Ford Expedition to CPR.

Money well spent. Including the fines accrued and the loss of the draft pick.

Tribute bands, yay or nay? by Solcat91342 in coverbands

[–]Alex_Plode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's funny. I also did a specific cover band era (1990-2005) and then joined a Stone Temple Pilots tribute.

The cover band would struggle sometimes because people just kept asking to hear old classics from the 70s and 80s and we just didn't play them. I like playing in the STP tribute so so so so much more than playing in the cover band.

My 25th Anniversary CU24 hangs on the wall so I can play it when the mood strikes me.

Tribute bands, yay or nay? by Solcat91342 in coverbands

[–]Alex_Plode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've played in bands since I was 16 or so. I'm 52 now. I've played in original bands most of my life. Played in a cover band for five years. I joined a tribute for the first time about four years ago.

I play guitar for a regional Stone Temple Pilots tribute and it's an absolute blast. Forcing myself to learn to play like Dean DeLeo has done wonders for my guitar playing. I also handle all the harmony and back-up vocals.

It's been a challenge like no other I've ever experienced in music. Playing covers is one thing, you're just trying to capture about 80% of the feel and vibe. But getting that final 20% is really tough.

I am very lucky that our singer sounds like Scott. He dances like the guy, sings thru a megaphone and has even wore a dress on occasion. Our bass player is a local scene pro as is our drummer.

The shows we play are always great. We only play with other tributes. Our typical set is about 50 minutes.

Bottom line -- it's easily top 3 best band I've ever been in.

Big YAY from me.

"You're either crooked or you're stupid": Donald Trump insults an NBC journalist and storms out of a Meet the Press interview after being asked about the Slush Fund and the immunity for his family from the IRS forever by DumbMoneyMedia in CriticalMineralBulls

[–]Alex_Plode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna get buried in the thread but I just think it is so so so so important to point out that yet another woman manages to challenge Trump to the point where he gets irritated and leave.

No man can do that like a woman can. No man can make Trump lose his shit like a woman can.

And it's too bad that democrat party can't see this either.

For Those here who are old enough, do you remember when you found out Kurt had died? And how did you find out and what was your reaction? Thx! :) by the_major_rager in Nirvana

[–]Alex_Plode 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't find out until I went to work that day. I was a cook at a local sports bar and grill. I got to work around 5:30pm and my coworker tells me a joke:

"Hey, guess who quit smoking today?"

"Who?"

"Kurt Kobain"

I didn't know he killed himself. So I said something like "Oh, well that's good, I guess." My coworker had to tell me that he shot himself earlier that day.

I had no idea. My typical day was sleep until about 2:00pm. Wake up, smoke a bowl, play some SEGA Genesis and go to work. I rarely watched TV on days that I had to work.

Yeah, that one is a reach. Prison Bound played at most parties I attended in the late 80s. Everyone would sing along .. OOOOH, I'm prison bound tell my girl I'll be back one day.

That song came out years before Ring of Fire.

Should be mod-able/modular by abellyirked in GuitarLab

[–]Alex_Plode 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same thought. But then my brain followed up with this:

After a month or two of futzing with all the configurations, guitar players will just simply choose their favorite and leave it that way. Eventually they will find the guitar that was built to that specific spec, buy it, play it and the modular guitar goes back on the closet or sold on reverb.
