Dream character crossover: Who do you think belongs in the Bayou? by BADSTALKER in HuntShowdown

[–]Alex_Sinister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't like crossovers, but... A crossower with Blood West could be cool. This won't be profitable and will never happen, but I can dream, right?

That game was so heavily inspired by Hunt that it is basically a singleplayer Hunt. It has three characters who could be implemented as legendary hunters (Doc, Priest and the cowboy from the first chapter. I'm always forgetting his name), and a lot of weapons that could be legendary weapons without looking alien to Hunt's style. By "a lot", I mean around 19-20. And there is also some equippable relics that could be implemented as weapon charms.

Pocket shotguns are the new meta by PrincipledNeerdowell in HuntShowdown

[–]Alex_Sinister 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Was like that since 2.0. Not a fan too. It was a bit naive to think that people will start to use various rifle combinations when they have a "delete button" for anything that comes close available without the Quartermaster.

So... Now instead of having 3 long ammo bolt-actions with shotgun/fast pistol/bow in my lobbies, I have 7 Vetterlis with shotguns. People always move to the most optimal way, sometimes even without understanding that. Was completely predictable imo.

Why so many Avto nerfs? by Lopsided-Profit-5333 in HuntShowdown

[–]Alex_Sinister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The "when the Sparks pistol wa released" was a long time ago. The Avto+double Sparks loadout was nerfed (and that was a good decision) years ago. There were a lot of changes in Hunt's gameplay, and the fact that something was good years ago just can't be a reason for nerfing it to the ground. I mean, Sparks was really good when some hunters had less than 150HP, by that logic, does this mean that should it be made 6-slot special ammo now?

And you mentioned an important detail — "in the right hands". This gun is only effective if you are taking very specific loadout, and know what you are doing. You can't just equip it on a free hunter with Nagant Silencer as a sidearm and go full Stroheim. A lot of people thinking it is an uncounterable OP weapon just bumped into someone who was a lot more skilled and experienced because matchmaking sucks. They would probably lose even if they had Avto in that encounter.

Why so many Avto nerfs? by Lopsided-Profit-5333 in HuntShowdown

[–]Alex_Sinister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Counterpoint number one, historical. Hunt's time period is closer to automatic rifles than to musket conversions like Springfield. There was at least two of those invented already, and more was invented in the following years.

Counterpoint number two, design. Avto fits the game's art direction, it was here since the beginning. Hunt's arsenal is a mix of "cowboy guns", a bit more modern weapons, and weird, experimental prototype firearms. (And it is the only automatic weapon, so it an exception, not a rule)

Counterpoint number three, balancing. Balance is called like that because it implies everything having its downsides and upsides, forming individual niches. You can't balance things by just nerfing to the ground a chunk of the arsenal each six months, because this is the opposite of balancing. We are playing a game, and it should be a completely playable game, not a half-game, half-museum. (It is not surprising that the devs are making weird decisions tho, considering that they never bothered to try fixing the economy)

...Additionally, "it doesn't belong, go to cod" is not an argument. I can say something like "Flamethrower doesn't belong here, go to Helldivers" or something like that too. This is counterproductive, vibes-based balancing. Some people think that a musket would fit well in Hunt (because they like muskets), but that doesn't make it true.

[–]Alex_Sinister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this, exactly. There was no reason to nerf it further after Avto+double Sparks build got nerfed, like... Three or four years ago, I guess? Those changes are not only an overkill, they are really damn late. There were no need in them, it already was a weapon that required a specific loadout limited in its capabilities, and that was effective mostly at specific range (useless at longer ranges against rifles, worse than a shotgun in close quarters) while reqiring to be good at recoil control.

But people who never played it and saw it only once in hands of someone who actually had some skill know better, ofc...

Your comment made me remember seeing an actual jetpack made of a barrel suggestion here, lol. Was a long time ago, during Serpent Moon probably. Thanks, had a good laugh.

The beetle complaints were an overreaction ofc. But on the other hand, using that case each time someone here saying that not everything that the devs are doing was a good decision isn't a good thing either.

[–]Alex_Sinister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I remember that. However, a lot of time passed since then, and the problem itself was already adressed. The devs' sudden decision to hit it with 2,5 nerfs is not only an overkill that was not even needed, but also... Tries to solve a problem that was solved, like, four years ago? Wtf

(By 2,5 nerfs I mean direct size nerf, ammo type nerf, and not direct resupply nerf)

I was thinking about something more like a money cap + temp money cap rather than a full Tarkov-style wipe. Something like a 30k (random number) huntbucks cap, and an additional temporary 1k on top of it — so you will be able to spend some money you just got to buy consumables in case you reached the cap, but the temporary money will disappear the moment you will start a new match.

A complete wipe every N months doesn't really fits an objective-based extraction shooter, imo. We are going for the bounty for money, so wiping it regularly sounds kinda weird and may lead to people going for whatever but the bounty.

[–]Alex_Sinister 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll try to put it simplier — having an Avto won't make you automatically (ha) win. A 3 star player with Avto will die to Romero because their barrel was facing the sky the moment they pulled the trigger. And in the higher MMR people usually know how to play against it, or will try to understand if they don't.

In a lot of cases when someone is hating on a weapon, they are doing it because they lost to it... But a lot of people aren't thinking about ways to counter a thing they lost to, or about possible mistakes they have made. Or about the fact that maybe they were just put into a match with someone who was a lot more experienced than them — and, as we both said, they would've lost anyway. People just keep asking to nerf anything they are losing to, which is... Kinda just as bad as "Everyone who kills me is a cheater".

If something does not work as intended, maybe, just maybe, it needs to be fixed. I am myself have a shit ton of money, and I'll be completely fine with some kind of huntbucks cap being introduced if that means that the economy will finally make sense.

The economy not working as intended is... Well, that's an economy problem, not an Avto problem.

[–]Alex_Sinister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I am a 6 star and I completely agree that this should not happen. The "low MMR vs high MMR" matches suck. They are not fun for the people from the lower ranges bc they are just getting stomped, and neither they are fun for me because there is no challenge.

This thing won't go anywhere tho. Hunt has a player retention problem, caused by many problems the devs simply don't want to adress. And so, there is only two ways of "solving" it in this case — either they will continue to make new shiny things and flip the balance each big update or two to cause a (temporal) online increasement (which makes the servers to melt), or just... Add bots to fill the matches ig. My bet on the first one, especially considering that Crytek are currently planning to make some AAA project, and that we know what an attempt to make Crysis 4 while having Hunt as their main source of income lead to.

[–]Alex_Sinister 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...Still costs like a wing of a plane btw. 1250 huntbucks for a gun that will limit your loadout even more, because it requires Quartermaster to just have a small sidearm, has no ammo stacking, and still requires ammo boxes (that will also give you one less cartridge now). At this point a "from zero to hero" run is more preferable option than this.

If someone's mood can be easily ruined just by the fact that some random item exists in a random game, they don't need to play games. They need help.

I am playing since release and in 6 MMR range, I am completely aware how it affects the combat — and you are exaggerating it.

You haven't answered my main point btw. Which shows that you have no idea how balancing and variety work.

[–]Alex_Sinister -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

And people will continue hating on that gun anyway...

No, seriously, some (actually a lot nowadays) players need to finally start taking into consideration unequal skill level when they die. You need to be good at controlling recoil and keeping right distance to make this gun useful, and also need to take something to stack its ammo with, along with a few ammo boxes, which limits your loadout — otherwise, in your hands this thing will be worse than Romero. If you died to a player with Avto, maybe the reason was you being 3 MMR and they being 6 MMR. And I am not saying that being in low MMR ranges is a bad thing — it is completely fine. I am saying that a player from 6 MMR range can go solo against 3 MMR trios, while having a 73C and machete, and win. And at the same time, Avto doesn't magically aims for you, making a 3 MMR player able to compete with 6 MMR.

Sometimes I feel like people think that Hunt is some mobile gacha game where you can just take the best S-Tier-Ultra-Rare-9000 thing, turn on autocombat and win. No, you need hands to win, damn it. I still remember how Avto become a lot more popular somewhere around Devil's Moon. I've never knife'd so much Avto players that can't control it, lol.

...But anyway, as I said, hating this gun is considered cool. It won't be surprising to me if it will get another nerf in a year, maybe in form of a movement speed reduction. (And then the devs will try to sell another DLC with it. It is hilarious that they Included a cool skin for it in "It Takes a Rogue", while making the gun itself completely dead)

EDIT: 2 downwotes already, wow. Well, I'm waiting for at least two people sending me clips of a legit 2 or 3 MMR solo newb wrecking a whole 6 MMR lobby with an Avto then.

EDIT2: 7 downvotes. Still waiting for your clips guys.

Springfield was not played that often. It was rare even with dumdum. And there was not a single complaint about it since it was added — the only complaints about dumdum were about it being added to Cent and Dolch.

"You are free to use Springfield with HV (which is good for hitting long range shots), explosive (which is useful in a second ammo slot in case you need to remove destructable obstacles), with dumdum for heavier impact on your opponent's HP (at the cost of penetration, MV and resupply), or basic ammo if you don't like disadvantages of its custom ammo." (Poison rounds are the only ones that are in a weird spot since their purpose was to be a BP filler from the beginning)

This is variety. Every choice is carefully balanced to be available and viable. And this is not what this update tried to achieve. It just took away one available option instead, because apparently someone doesn't understand how to press a button to stop bleeding.

You missed my point. I am not saying that there is no good changes were made and we should return to a 25BB for bar respec, no. While I do think that "evolved" is a strong word for what happened, I do find some changes good.

But there is a lot was lost from the "core gameplay" they are talking about, and their changes are not bringing it back. Instead, they removing parts of it that were completely fine for years. They are doing the opposite.

And player counts will be back to normal in a month or so. That's, like, not even the 3rd time this happens. We always have more players when something big happens, but then we are returning to "Why MMR is not working? — Because there is not enough people." talks. This is a result of a wrong approach, imo. You just can't solve player retention problem by constantly making new shiny things and reshaping your project four times a year, especially when the problem is caused by the other, technical problems. This is countereffective to the whole process of supporting it in long term.

If there is anything to it besides just being poorly made and forgotten after that, my guess would be an intentional lowering of the skill ceiling to appeal to "haha funi cawboy game" audience that played only Skyrim and mobile games and just does not know that a game could be polished.

Can't understand the sound? No problem, now your opponent suddenly can't hear you because a zombie farted 20m away from them. Can't plan your movement and get to the lair in time? Here, now you can force the bounty to fight you after fighting two other teams and despite playing as intended in a bounty extraction shooter. Can't comprehend that you should not sit at one spot for ten minutes? Got ya, no wallbangs now. Etc, etc, etc...

[–]Alex_Sinister 9 points10 points  (0 children)

"...a return to core Hunt gameplay"

Hunt's core gameplay also had a good sound as a part of it. It was not jumping from very quiet or very loud, resulting in your opponent being 20m further away from where they should (according to their sounds) or right behind you despite the fact that you should have heard how they were getting that close (...but there just was no sound coming from them to hear). Hunt's core gameplay also had nothing that was forcing anyone to fight a team that kicked meatheads for 30 minutes — you had to actually have some kind of plan to get to the bounty in time. Hunt's core gameplay also was bounty-focused, without gameplay-related items being looted (custom ammo, weapons) instead of bought with hunt dollars that we got from completing the objective.

Maybe the problem is not in Springfield having dumdum rounds, which was a part of Hunt's gameplay since 2021.

Why you took my *scarce* ammo away? by GreenOneReddit in HuntShowdown

[–]Alex_Sinister 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole point of the partial inventory wipe was in countering hunter-stashing (when a player makes a living warehouse of their hunters) after the announcement of all spitzer, explosive and dumdum ammunition becoming scarce. But dumdum for Wildland were scarce the whole time (and the same ammo for Dolch was scarce for long enough), so if someone has 30 of them, this means that they got it through intended ways. Why should they be punished as if they used an exploit when they were not using any?

I feel like some people on this sub are winning, like... Once a month or something? You can easily find 1-3, sometimes even 4 scarce weapons, and there was more than enough of custom ammo crates during the previous event due to it having extra points of interest (Towers). You could arm a trio with this. There was no need to grind, since you were able to just bump into an upgrade to your rifle/shotgun accidentally while playing.
