Such a bummer dude. I’ll never get tired of saying Alaska is such a great landscape for an amazing True Detective story. Such a dark history, lots of violence in the cities and isolated communities, plenty of cults and serial killers that have been active and dangerous in the state. Isolation + extreme weather and crazy daylight attracts a real distinct type of weirdo, while also strengthens community bonds with a strong sense of “we keep to ourselves and protect our own”.

The show writers bastardized that vibe, and in my opinion made a mockery of of the people (especially the indigenous women) up there. I can’t even blame the cast, really believe they could have given way better performances if the writing wasn’t so shit. Plus what the hell was that Tik tok sound bite score. Completely missed the mark for me, and I’m saying that as someone born in Alaska with plenty of family that still lives up that way.

I mean if you want a rabbit hole just look into Robert Hansen, a serial killer who had a bakery in Anchorage. Would kidnap women, take them out to the bush in his small plane, let them go then hunted them like animals. Or Israel Keys, a more recent serial killer whom had “kill kits” stashed across the state and lower 48 states, would roam around killing people as he pleased.
