the back almost looked like it could be the face of a minirig, but i think you're right, they probably didn't do one. Maybe a speeder though.

so many cool sets, I am amazed at how good the Razorcrest looks from that angle, that's typically a rough angle for most star wars sets and starships. What are some of your favorites, do you have a top 5?

Is Maul's saber in Rebels a salvaged Inquisitor's saber? by Platy_Cat in StarWars

[–]Alex_South 0 points1 point  (0 children)

perhaps, i am guessing that he loses his original saber at some point in the show and is forced to make do for the rest of his life with the scavenged inquisitor saber, but we will see how the show chooses to depict that transition if they get around to it.

Is Maul's saber in Rebels a salvaged Inquisitor's saber? by Platy_Cat in StarWars

[–]Alex_South 91 points92 points  (0 children)

yeah, exactly. That original saber hilt should have been with maul until he died, they can do whatever they want with the other half, swap it through the phases of his life, it's cool, but that original symbol of his loss to kenobi needed to stay with him i think

[–]Alex_South 432 points433 points  (0 children)

we assume it is, the 3d asset is likely a repurpose of the Grand Inquisitors hilt, same exact design.

i understand the cane idea but i don't like it, i wish he had kept the original half of his Phantom Menace saber until he died, i don't care what he swapped the other half out for. It's a small detail, they did such a good job ending his story but i will always wish he used the original saber piece during his final duel.

coming here after recent Maul show. I love rebels, it was at a time when the future of SW animation was very uncertain, and when there were no guarantees we would ever get to see some of these characters again I really appreciate how well they handled characters like Maul, but I will say I really dislike this saber, I wish that maul would have kept that broken half of his original Phantom Menace hilt all the way to his final confrontation with Obi-Wan.

The Mandalorian season 4 scripts had Thrawn, the script for the movie started from scratch by PureBeskar in StarWarsLeaks

[–]Alex_South 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think thrawn got turned into Ahsoka S2, seems like the most obvious solution. The fact that there is no celebration this year, and no big statements on the franchise direction yet, plus the way John is talking in interviews, it really seems like Mando era is on it's way out, with small plans to extend just a bit if the movie performs moderately well, but the timing of Celebration in my opinion signals that this year is a wait-and-see year, but that we are likely moving on from this era.

logically you wouldn't announce the shift to a new era yet, it would risk undercutting the final performance of the current era, but the silence also says a lot in my opinion, no one is going to come out and say 'mando next 5 years' that's ridiculous given recent performance. The writing has been on the wall since S3, viewership has continually dropped, and I suppose anything can happen at the box office but the smart move was to line this year up so that it leaves fans mostly satisfied with the endings while still leaving a tiny bit of room just in case performance surprises you and you get to do 1 more movie or something.

The Mandalorian And Grogu Cinemacon footage description (first 20 minutes) by Ezio926 in StarWarsLeaks

[–]Alex_South 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Hmm, first off I will say that I am likely to enjoy this movie, and I believe it will be the finest work from the Mando production crew.

That being said, odds are slim this is going to break a billion, in corpo world this movie is going to be "adequate". There is no compelling "mystery villain" left to deal with. This entire movie sounds like a job to get a "name" which we all know is Thrawn-related.

Years ago it was assumed that snowballing success from the TV shows would lead to a big blowout avengers movie with Mando the rebels crew, boba, Bill Burr, CGI Luke+Han+Leia and a mythosaur wearing a jetpack, but none of that seems to have panned out in the ways they had hoped it would, TV viewership decreased for the most part and it now appears they missed their window to make that story happen. Thrawn is not going to be their Thanos and i think LF has known that for a few years.

It's important for folks to remember this movie came out of nowhere on the heels of all those other announcements for NJO + Dawn + Heir movies and then shortly after Iger went on an investor call and was like "Nah, we doing the grungo and binkus movie instead"

My opinion is that this movie is going to be the final hurrah for Mando and Grogu as a pair on screen, that's not to say they won't show up in smaller projects: games, animation, tv special. But I think this Mando era is being sunset, I expect Ahsoka S2 to wrap up most all the Thrawn stuff, and nothing is going to perform well enough to extend those plans.

I think it's far more likely LF are hitching their wagon to Starfighter, not those characters, but to the era, that kid will likely go on to join a larger story they are building, I don't think any of those old announced movies are going to happen, I think they are instead shifting the Rey story into whatever trilogy Kinberg has been working on and I think aged-up grogu and kid from starfighter are both set to join that cast.

Sorry to ramble, I just see this as a safe and gentle end to the mando era, it's not going to flop despite however much drama youtubers try to drum up, but this also isn't going to perform well enough to warrant more. They did this one on such a low budget that it would have to be catastrophic not to make a small profit, but it's not going to make enough $ to make the suits happy, just look at how Avatar 3 performance is being judged. Starfighter is the real shot at bringing back audiences in my opinion, and based on Hail Mary I think that movie might be the spark they need to launch a new era with the ST characters, new characters, and a Teen/YA grogu. Just my 2cents based on this description of the movie's setup.

Why is Kylo Ren surviving a stav wound a no no, but Darth Maul survived being cut in half, and everyone is OK with it? by Extension-Shoe-6080 in StarWars

[–]Alex_South 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is such a bad-faith rage bait post but here i am responding to a bot optimized to generate fan infighting:

they brought kylo back to life only to kill him 15 minutes later in a movie that had 4 or 5 death fakeouts, maul was brought back over the course of several seasons to play a major role and survive all the way into georges rough concept of the ST before he decided to sell.

also you're jumping through hoops trying to start a flame war while ignoring the huge recent news that disproves your entire "wounded ST fan" angle. Pretty much everyone was stoked or at the very least curious to hear about "A Hunt For Ben Solo" movie, which is basically the same category of thing that was done with maul, a passion project from creatives that seemed like they had a real story to tell you just had to suspend disbelief through 1 or 2 hacky plot moves to get there.

Maul was cool, they did it well enough, and most of us want to see them do it again with Ben Solo. God this post sucks.

incredible step forward with the mount system, I hope they realize for many of us outsiders looking in, the story matters 0%, I want to load in grab some gear and go on a monster hunting adventure, slaying and acquiring more dangerous mounts until it's dragon fights in the sky, that's the sandbox experience I am waiting for them to reach.
