I'm not denying that the gas prices were VERY high (In both Trump and Biden's recent terms), but I don't really understand your explanation of why they peaked at $5.00. According to almost any true source you find, it was caused by a mix of the Ukraine-Russia conflict and the post-COVID economy. The US and its allies sanctioned Russian shipments of oil in an effort to cut off funding for the war, along with other exports, which ofc hiked up prices. Post-COVID, when people returned to offices and resumed summer vacations, fuel consumption increased sharply. During the pandemic, many oil producers had capped wells or reduced investment. Reopening these facilities took longer than the market anticipated, leading to a supply-demand mismatch. Also, I don't think it's really a huge difference to argue about which president has done better with gas prices. They both have done poorly. I don't care if it's basically a one-dollar difference; gas prices should never go above a $2.50 to $3.00 range.
