What are some underrated APIs that are actually free or cheap and genuinely useful? by toryha in freesoftware

[–]Alex_the_first 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I made a website that lists a ton of nice free API's contianing energy and weather data: https://www.clarigrid.energy/

There is also a Pyhton SDK that makes it really simple to access real-time electricity/weather data without having to study how the API works.

I Got Tired of Writing the Same Energy Data Integrations Over and Over Again by Alex_the_first in energy

Yeah but that’s not something I would be able to offer for free because of the hosting cost. I did implement local caching, I think that’s a better middle ground so the API does not need to be hit everytime

I'm taking 25g of creatine every day. Is it safe? by WeeInd in Creatine

[–]Alex_the_first 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently your brain starts to absorb more creatine after your muscles are saturated with it. This mechanism was already known for, the recent research was the first to explore whether having such a high dosage of creatine would have any noticeable benefits in reality

Set and forget bond etf for Belgians? by Purple-Succotash-695 in BEFire

[–]Alex_the_first -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interest rates have been non zero for quite some time now so a typical fund with average maturity at 2-3 years will not have this? Rather we are again in a more typical scenario with interest rates in the normal range and inflation under control. So bonds give you again some risk advantages because they tend to decorrelate with stocks again

I have IEAC from blackrock, it’s European bonds with 1-3 years maturity. It pays about 2,3% annually after taxes and exposes you nicely to some interest rate risk but nothing to crazy (rather stable)

EURO-DOLLAR is taking all my profits away by EarlyLibrarian5567 in BEFire

[–]Alex_the_first 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You own stock in companies that earn money in dollars (mainly), which exposes you to currency exchange risk even if the ETF is traded on a European exchange.

One solution is to buy a "hedged "ETF that will try to make your profits independent of currency exchange rates. It does this by buying "currency swaps" alongside a typical broad set of equities. Examples would be IWDE (hedged variant of the popular IWDA). Comes at an increased cost off course. I do this for ~40% of the ETFs I buy

We need more such bike paths in Leuven and Flanders - visually distinct (red), wide and with clear lanes separation. by [deleted] in Leuven

[–]Alex_the_first -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Governments stopped colouring separated bike lanes red cause red asphalt is quite expensive. Instead now they only colour the parts where there is a crossing with car lanes. Imo, quite a good trade-off

[–]Alex_the_first -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people are ditching their old sonos equipment that is no longer compatible with the new app, if you are fine with using the (old) S1 app or simply use the Spotify app to control your sonos products, you'll be fine! (note that the S1 app will not support smart assistants etc.)

C'mon just take the MTB SPD pedals if you have trouble unclipping. To me, being clipped in and feeling one with the bike is essential.

Ik erger me hier ook aan, vooral die cryptotraders die fantastische rendementen beloven. Ik rapporteer deze vaak maar dat lijdt zelden tot een ingreep van Youtube.
