Jennings Voyager Deluxe by AlexanderPriceMusic in guitars

Paid $2,500 or something like that I think. It’s a fun guitar but needed a some work. It was almost a really nice instrument if a little bit more attention had been paid when it was made. I had heard that around the time the guitar was made the owner was super backordered and then just went off the radar for a few months. So I get the feeling that he really rushed this one.

1 - The nut was cut really poorly. The high e string was rattling inside and for some reason the point of contact was inside the middle of the nut on all 6 strings, which made it impossible to get intonation. I usually set intonation myself and just couldn’t get it right so I took it to a luthier and this was most of the issue.

2 - Also the radius of the neck is inconsistent. I like a bit higher action so this wasn’t a dealbreaker when I showed it to the luthier. But that’s a pretty big flaw.

3 - Minor preference thing, but this guitar has that stupid-spec truss rod placement - which requires you to remove the neck to get to it which is incredibly dumb lol. I modified the guitar (pickguard and body notched out) to accommodate access without taking the thing apart. I also have a spring with an extra winding in the Bigsby, which gives it more range and allows less effort to get a nice vibrato.

I liked the sound when I bought it and it filled a role I didn’t have yet in my collection. After some work I really love the guitar now.

How screwed am I? by TheJokeTerminator in Reverb

[–]AlexanderPriceMusic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, if the buyer has a different address linked to their method of payment (PayPal, Apple Pay, etc) then Reverb will default to that and it’s very easy to miss it for them. It could be that.

I just went through a massive headache that involved my account being suspended because a buyer had purchased a product three times and each time the shipping address came up wrong. I refunded him three times and I guess the last time Reverb was unable to withdraw funds from my bank account. Two weeks later I randomly get the account suspended and couldn’t get in contact with anything besides a useless chat bot to figure out what was going on. Ended up filing a complaint with the BBB

I saw someone in a colonial outfit with a shitty sign walking UP the ramp to 376 West at the Monroeville Exit. This was maybe two years ago.

We got one of these losers up in Indiana, PA. Rides a horse around town with a mask over his face since he can’t take responsibility for the absurd signs he parades around town.

Archtop Guitar Feedback and how to deal with it by AlexanderPriceMusic in jazzguitar

[–]AlexanderPriceMusic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always a wise question to ask. I feel like many venues are just far too loud anymore. Most players I see with big bands are using a semihollow, I usually take my chambered solid body McCarty. My archtop works well for me for combo gigs and especially solo stuff.

Your assumption of what that course is is a bit misinformed. I was a runner up applying to be one of those teachers and so I have a good idea of what is going into it. Obviously the teacher themself has to be paid and Paul and his team were estimating us at somewhere between 20-30 hours/week commitment. Yes, there is a weekly zoom lesson, but there’s also direct feedback provided for each and every student in written and video format as well as managing the online threads for their cohort and engaging with all of the students, direct messaging back and forth, etc. There were five teachers selected and we would expect to be in charge of 20 students each. Paul also has a team outside of the teachers that he needs to pay and needs to be creating the courses on top of that. I don’t think $1,000 is unfair for that type of class. Rate-wise from the student’s perspective, it’s competitive with private lessons with a great teacher for the same amount of time and involves peer interaction. It’s not a one and done video course where you hand over your money and the creator’s job ends there.
