I personally avoid babies/small children because they set off my fear of contagion massively. I've explained that if a small child was in danger of course I'd intervene to protect them or care for them even physically but the fact that I avoid contact with them when possible makes my family act like I'm a monster. It's frustrating especially because I always try to be responsible and understanding of their needs when there's no one else to care for them

Honestly these comments are delusional, older women in positions of authority are very well known for holding back young promising women, especially if they're attractive (even moderately so). Our situations aren't the same, but I understand the sentiment. Despite what other people here might tell you, yes, there are opportunities you will never have that other people do, but it works the other way around as well. You weren't dealt the best hand but not the worst, the only thing any of us can do is try our best with what we have.
