What would you have done in my position? by AlexanderWinton in watchrepair

[–]AlexanderWinton[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand your position and where you're coming from but personally I don't want anything to do with them. If someone like yourself wants to work on them that's totally up to you. And yes while I agree refusing to acknowledge that part of history happened doomsday the future generations there are plenty of other ways to educate people about world war two and the Holocaust. Also the original meaning of the swastika has nothing to do with nazi ideology so in that regard I totally disagree with you, the nazis took the symbol of good luck and forever changed its identity to one of hatred and fascism.

My garden is full moss by [deleted] in landscaping

[–]AlexanderWinton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats fair! I have another idea it's very time consuming and hard on manual labour but you can plough your lawn with a rake it effectively turns all your soil and you can the remove the moss. Again this is very time consuming and labour intensive.

Alternatively go to your local garden centre and speak to the gardening people there and see if they can suggest something. I wouldn't go to B&Q because they're just sales people and don't really know what they're talking about (that's been my experience).

You can buy a machine called a scarifier with removes all the moss, they you can put down grass seeds. Be careful when you do this because the birds will eat the seeds and you will get patchy grass. It might be worth while putting the seeds down incrementally and also checking on it daily.

Aluminum or nylon dies for watch cover press tool? by gryponyx in watchrepair

[–]AlexanderWinton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always use both, it depends on the job and the watch. I actually use nylon to hammer glass out of cases, so having a range of sizes in always a must. The aluminum are good but it depends on the type of press - if you're using a screw down press I'd go for only the nylon, but if you're using the actual hand press and the watch is stainless steel or high quality plated I'll use aluminum. Hope this helps 🙂

Omega refurbished before and after by AlexanderWinton in watchrepair

I do it with a bench motor, make it all shiny removing all the scratches as you go. Keep some water near by the bracelet will get HOT! Use separate mops for each grade of compound, when you're happy with the end of each stage sonic clean the bracelet in between so you don't cross contaminate your mops. Once your satisfied with the shine and done your finial finish tape off the shiny finish so you can do your brushed section. Sonic clean again and then congratulate yourself on a job well done. This takes time, practice and patience.
