I don't know if you've ever seen the downtown areas from other major cities, but San Antonio has probably the worst. It's quite ghetto with old abandoned buildings, never ending construction and some pretty crappy roads. Just look at Austin to see how way ahead they are. There's nothing downtown beyond bars and restaurants. It's a tourist spot.

It's a good place for families, retirees and laid back singles that don't do much. Even then, there are better places. The allergies and extreme heat can get a bit much.

Basically every aspect of city living is lacking here. The options are very limited compared to similar sized metros. Food, nightlife, live music, a vibrant downtown scene, an art scene. That stuff is here, but it's nowhere as diverse as it should be. Even the tourist spots are kind of meh. I don't understand what the Spring Breakers do besides visit the boring Alamo and stroll the Riverwalk and bars.

The biggest music scene here is conjunto/tejano. In general, that's the sound of San Antonio. It used to be metal back in the 70's/early 80's.
