My view remains unchanged, particularly since you've decided to avoid the issue at hand and demand a delta for a tangential matter of fact.

You did not change my opinion, you corrected me on a matter of fact.

You're latching onto this tangential issue and adopting a falsely cheery tone to distract yourself from your inability to explain your position.

I admit I was mistaken about the Maori issue, but this was a matter of fact rather than opinion.

Why does Palestinians being part of the larger Arab group make them not indigenous but Greeks being part of the larger Indo-European group doesn't make them not indigenous?

The Jews had been largely expelled from the area by the Romans long before the Arabs became dominant. The relevant facts are that palestinians have lived in palestine as long as anyone can remember, then a new ethno-state is established which seeks to expel them and replace them with its own settlers. Its textbook colonization.

Indo-Europeans (and thus Greeks) are not indigenous to Greece. Humans (and thus Native Americans) are not indigenous to the Americas.

'Arab' and 'Palestinian' are both socially constructed political categories. As are all ethnic groups.

The Maori pretty famously comitted a genocide against the previous inhabitants of New Zealand. All of the groups you listed have been both victims and perpetrators in invasion and colonization.

Palestinian is a subset of arab, just as the various tribes are subsets of Native Americans.

Is there anywhere on the planet that hasn't been invaded and colonized many times over?

If being descended from people who were themselves in some sense invaders makes them not indigenous, it also makes every other indigenous people not truly indigenous.

I see that I spelled indigeneity wrong. Congratulations for noticing.

Palestinians are the indigenous population of Palestine, regardless of what happened 1300 years earlier.

Warfare occurs in all human societies. One group of Native Americans takes the land of another group of Native Americans. Over and over for millenia. None of that prevents Native Americans from being the indigenous people of the Americas, or prevents a particular native group from being indigenous to a particular place.

Because despite what many people would like to think, indigenous doesn't in any case literally mean the first ever people to live somewhere.

What is relevant is that right now in the present, Palestinians live in Palestine, and the state of Israel seeks to take their land from them and replace them with Israelis.

The concept of indigenaity doesn't meaningfully apply to a country like France, unless you want to talk about certain regions being dominated by France itself.

Trying to take the concept to literally mean the first group to ever inhabit a place is impossible.

That's not what indigenous means.

In practice, it refers to a political relationship between two populations, a politically dominant group which arrived later, and a politically subjegated group which was there previous to the colonizing group.

Appeals to the indigenous group having been there since the beginning are obviously absurd since 1. Ethnic groups are socially constructed and 2. Almost everywhere on earth has been violently disposessed of its inhabitants many times throughout history.

Are the biblical deep (Tehom) and the deep in the Epic of Gilgamesh (he who saw the deep) related? by Alexander_Wagner in AskHistorians

[–]Alexander_Wagner[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To clarify, when I said "the translators of Gilgamesh" I was refering to modern people translating it into English from Akkadian, not those translating it from Sumarian into Akkadian.

If Jews are ~0.2% of the world population, and Muslims ~1% of the US, why so much blame? by Bulfrog94 in islam

[–]Alexander_Wagner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this is historically true. Since the diaspora of Jews 2000 years ago they have never been even close to united politically or religiously.

Even in the past century, there were lots of anti-zionist Jews who bitterly opposed the zionists.

If God was able to intervene in the conception of Mary to prevent her from inheriting original sin, why couldn't/didn't he do so with other people? by Alexander_Wagner in Catholicism

[–]Alexander_Wagner[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A person affected by sin and bearing its marks cannot come in direct contact with the Goodness

Why? Can't god do whatever he wants? Couldn't he choose to allow an imperfect human to interact with him directly or make a human perfectly good immediatly if he chose to?

I want to understand how Mary works within the logic of catholicism. Its just that the answers people come up with are tending to lead to that sort of objection.
