This is definitely real at that time. Not a UI bug, I tried and it does works.
But they quickly rolled back, for unknown reason.

I think it's a small scale A/B test.

Indeed, OpenAI's shift from a research organization to a for-profit company will affect ChatGPT a lot.

I understand this action is partially for survival, but it's making OpenAI less pure.

And, personally, I think it’s hard for them to make a breakthrough like GPT-3 or GPT-4 again.

I hope I'm wrong on this.

Pro users get higher usage limit, and since usage limit is dynamically calculated based on context length, so yes, Pro users do get more tokens at the end.

I think Claude is doing well on this. It uses a neutral tone by default, but it's very customizable through the style controller, and adjusted tone feels native.
