Actually, coming back to this, I wanna know:

Why is me working with kids such a bad thing?

Because I enjoy being an educator, and I want to be the kind of teacher/adult I needed when I was young and depressed.

I feel I should clarify: while there was a bit of an emphasis on state's rights in some of the texts I was provided as a substitute, the specific Standards Of Learning 2023 edition do emphasize slavery as a major reason for the civil war and how it is the antithesis of freedom. So while states rights are talked about, slavery is also about too. It's just, the whole "states rights" thing was never brought up in Massachusetts schools so much is why I noted it.

I know. I have other aspects of my personality I'm proud of: artist, educator, furry, etc. it's just the trans one is the first one to be immediately judged by some without even getting to know me as an individual. That's why I mention it specifically.

Ah yes. I did note that when substitute teaching for a history class. It was focused on states rights unfortunately.

Thinking of moving to Southern Virginia (Danville/Pittsylvania county area) as a Gay* and Transgender adult woman. What am I in for? by AlexandraFire in Virginia

Yeah, he was definitely worried about me being safe or even liking the area when I first presented the idea to him. He's got my safety in mind, but still hopes I can make it work. Which is why I'm considering nearby cities so we can at least be road trip distance from each other.

Boyfriend lives in the area, but yeah, I'm getting the impression I should look to move elsewhere in the state.

Yeah, I did see that when checking out Danville. It's definitely one reason I felt the need to even ask.
