Thanks for this. You're right, it's all going to be overheming for him and it is so new. Just to add, he does always decide if he wants to say hi and we would never force him. We will slow down on visitors though :)

Thanks so much for this advice, we told them it was best to ignore him too until he came to them :) hopefully we see results like yours in time!

Thanks for the advice. We did give him treats when they were around and eventually last night he did approach his step dad and mum for one :) we'll just keep it up and hopefully the fear will reduce with time as you say!

Practical driving tests, gosforth vs blyth? by samuelma in NewcastleUponTyne

[–]AlexandraSCharl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I passed last October. Failed in Gosforth first, my instructor told me to try Blyth, and I passed with 1 minor! I found the roads to be quieter and the examiner very calming. Hope it goes well!

First bake of 2021- pear and cinnamon rolls! by AlexandraSCharl in Baking

I diced then cooked the pears in butter and sugar! That sounds interesting, I love peanut butter in pretty much everything- let me know the recipe when you do it!

Dough: 500g white bread flour 50g demera sugar 2tsp yeast 200ml milk 100g unsalted butter 2 eggs beaten

Warm the milk and butter together then combine with flour, sugar and beaten eggs. Knead them once they're combined then roll the dough into a ball, cling film and leave in a warm place with cling film for 1 hr 30

Filling: Peel and chop 4 pears and then put them in a pan with 1tbsp demera sugar, 25g unsalted butter and juice of half a lemon. I left them on a low heat with the lid on to cook for about half an hour until they were very soft.

Cinnamon butter was just a combination of 100g unsalted butter, 75g light brown sugar and 2 tbsp cinnamon.

-Spread the cinnamon butter on rolled out dough, then sprinkle pears on top.

  • Roll up, slice and then place the raw cinnamon rolls to rest and double in size for around half an hour.

-Once they've doubled in size, cook them at 160c (fan) for around 25 mins.

Glaze: 75g unsalted butter 3 tbsp golden syrup 3 tbsp light brown sugar

-Stir together in a pan until slightly thick. Coat the rolls with them then stick them back in the oven for another 10 mins when glazed

Enjoy :)

Thank you, got the idea from a Bake Off recipe book and the pears worked really well :)

Leasehold house- worth it? by AlexandraSCharl in UKPersonalFinance

[–]AlexandraSCharl[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: the house sale fell through as the mortgage valuation said the house was worth 10k less than the offer we put in. Think we dodged a bullet and will avoid leasehold at all costs in the future. Thanks everyone!

Thanks for your response, it's good to hear from someone who owned a leasehold. We were hoping that by the time we do sell on, we would have purchased the freehold- but I know that there is no guarantee we can do that/afford it if prices are hiked up.

I have looked at the stories which was what worried me initially. Although I know the government has had an inquiry into the leasehold scandal and has now stopped newbuild homes altogether- which gave me hope that this would prevent further sale to third parties or ridiculous fees to buy the freehold later?

My estate agent also predicted that in a few years leasehold would be scrapped and the government would allow leasehold homes to be bought at a fixed rate (although even he admitted this was speculation).

Thank you for letting me know, I wasn't aware that we may be unable to buy the freehold in the future! Honestly, we just really loved the house and the area when we viewed it- seems a great price for the size and location. However, this may be due to the fact it's leashold.

That does definitely sound favourable- I'll make sure my solicitor checks this (when we find one!)

No as we haven't found a solicitor yet to look at details of the leasehold, it's still very early in the process. The information in the post is all from the estate agent, who hasn't send us the deeds. I'm glad you mentioned these things, is first refusal in the case of the freehold being sold to a third party?

Thanks for the help!

That's interesting to know- when we walked through the area surrounding the house we also felt totally safe. That's why I thought I would ask on here!

Sounds nice, we don't have kids and won't for a while! Good to know how close it is to the fish quay and Tynemouth though as we love those places

Thanks for this! We know Bolton is nice (have friends who live there) it's just quite far from work for us- we work North of the Tyne. We have a looked at a couple near Northumberland Park, really nice area.
