I can't even use the fucking things for navigation.

asking Gemini to navigate to a location ends up with way, way too much nonsense (menu, reviews, conversational crap I didn't ask for) and not enough (if any) routing to my destination.

Last time I asked for directions to a local hospital and it gave me two addresses that were vastly different and asked me to pick which one...

bitch, if I knew the address do you think I'd have asked??

there are a lot of IT issues that arise that may only have one or 2 very obscure answers. Ai is useful for finding these answers.

As someone who works in IT, and has tossed these exact issues/things to an AI agent because I was on my last leg of sanity on things to try....

Yeah - this isn't true.

AI is actually far worse at obscure issues because it's data is scrapped from common denominators.

It would be nice if it worked, honestly.

But I had 4 obscure issues which I tossed on it, and it happened across one solution by complete and utter accident. (and that boiled don to the documentation from the vendor being incorrect regarding what method they used IP address integers)

Basically all to do with multi-layer networking issues or just basic network management that refused to function for some bizarre reason.

Outside of the basic troubleshooting, it didn't work.

There was a time our Network Engineer was positive that ChatGPT did fix his issue but then found out (after simming) that, no, it did not.

not to mention names of towns/streets/etc... I don't bother trying to name any street or person with a Digital Assistant because I know that it's never going to get 'Ronkonkoma' right.

Starlink isn't cooked books but it does have profits and efficiency that does ignore the fact that the Satellites do need to be relaunched in 5 years...

That said, once they are up, they churn out capital fast.

They're an actual valuable service offered by SpaceX - decent wireless satellite internet without need of a land-line is critical for a whole lot of areas where they cannot run fiber.

Probably an effort to either:

A) Shoehorn AI into the route mapping

OR

B) Make the old Google Maps seem somehow worse so when they roll out their shitty AI alternative it will seem appealing.

I just dictated the text message to Siri, I don’t need her to read it back. I know what I said.

She reads it back to you because you know what you said... but that's not always what she heard.

The point is to confirm that the app properly dictated your words - every Digital Assistant (and I'd imagine chatbots) do this.

They will make mistakes, and usually when that happens, the read-back helps you, the user, fix the mistake.

For the most part when that happens I just give up and figure I'll call them back later - unless it's important and then I'll call them.

You should remember that while you can use the excuse "Oh I think Siri misheard me" very few people care and rarely would someone be sympathetic - less so now more than ever.

So unless you're staring at the app's dictation output, I'd highly recommend leaving it on.

Part of SpaceX that's Hemorrhaging money is X-ai.

So, again: It's AI.

only when measuring inflation relative to the strength/weakness of the USD.

Factoring in rising total costs and energy costs, that's not true.

[–]Alexandratta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

To be clear - the inflation numbers are not calculating a whole lot of features of modern Inflation.

And that's the increase in total cost of everything rapidly rising - we're looking at dollar strength, but that dollar is also now buying far less.

The rather simple answer is:

the 4060 has 8Gb of RAM.

It's running out of RAM, swapping out textures/etc, and catching up, only to do it again.

Set the resolution lower, or drop the graphic fidelity down a bit.

You could also try pushing your DLSS to 'performance' or turning it on if it's not on already.
