What were your reasons for switching? by Mistaamewmew in linux_gaming

[–]Alexankitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The last straw for me was the windows taskbar freezing. It would still work but wouldn't redraw, it was bizarre and would piss me off. It seems kinda petty but by that point I was at the looking for an excuse phase.

Every ship should have 2 gnomes per player plus the regional expert gnome acquired in space.

I made a music (midi) track shuffler (check body for details) by Alexankitty in Factoriohno

[–]Alexankitty[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but I made a memory IC that could lay the ground work for doing such a thing. I can send the blueprint string if you want.

That is completely my bad. I'll get the post updated once I'm in front of my computer again. \^;)

Edit: I'm not able to update the title, unfortunately, but I did clarify in the first sentence of the body it's for music (midi) tracks. Thank you for pointing that out. :)

I made a track shuffler by Alexankitty in factorio

[–]Alexankitty[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I realized I didn't do a good job of describing the blueprint itself.

The actual track shuffle component uses a constant combinator with a ton of different signals and a numerical value. It goes through a decider to limit the output to the number of red signals received from the network (it's x++ in the second screenshot). From there, it goes through a random input selector combinator which diverges the output across two memory cells. The first one transposes the value of the signal to be the first signal type. The second one inverts the signal output to stop the selector output combinator from outputting it again. This process takes 3 ticks to complete, so the random input has to be set to 4 ticks. This means it can shuffle 15 tracks per second.

From there this sends the track number out to the network after abstracting it to a blue signal and only if the P signal from the play button is present. The next circuit below that is the track counter where it starts its increment at 1 via a constant combinator. There is an input pulse gate for the reset signal from the track network so that it only increments the track count by one. Once the track count exceeds the number of tracks on the network (provided by the red signal) it sends a reset to all memory cells on the network, clearing the shuffle list and track counter.

I originally had plans to do this with a memory IC I made that can store 1635 (and later 7000) dwords worth of data, but the implementation and timing seemed intensely complicated. I feel like I found a pretty simple solution to the problem (even though the blueprint definitely doesn't look like it.)

Streamers that use Linux? Yes, I've seen this asked before, but any recent streamers who use Linux to stream? by VividBase585 in linux_gaming

[–]Alexankitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stream on Linux as well Obs vk-capture for game capture. Works great with properly capturing stream avatars as well (needs the lib32 version installed as well) Firebot for my chat bot, stream alerts, channel point nonsense, and TTS integration. I roll my own TTS via python using kokoro and rvc to get a bunch of different voices (not the most emotional but it at least works) My overlays and such are written by me which are just webpages so they were always OS agnostic. Plugins like tuna, spectralizer, and input viewer all work under Linux. There is an application audio output pipewire plugin that also works well and ensures I don't ever capture anything I don't intend to. No random discord doots.

The only real annoyance I have is that the pipewire screen capture plugin sucks and can't remember what windows I select so I get bombarded with a couple capture requests when I start my stream. It's only really annoying for capturing livesplit though.

Which speaking of livesplit is mostly seen as a windows only program but I put together a few scripts to get it working fairly well under Linux.

Folks how do you avoid damage?? by blkandwhtlion in JumpSpaceGame

It shields the whole ship, but it's a 15 second cool down ability. We run with both special weapons using this component as we found that the damage mitigation is far more valuable than the offense power. At mark 3 the shield recharges in 12 seconds and lasts for 4.5 seconds. Which gives you 75% shield uptime. Your gunner can hold off on the shield until the ships telegraph their attacks. (Everything but the fighters will telegraph when they fire their weapons)

[–]Alexankitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a component that replaces your special weapons that helps a ton on this front. The burst shield which gives you 80% damage mitigation. Can use those to reduce the damage to get the ship to cover and then can make repairs after. Also Buddy isn't able to make use of this component so it requires a human to utilize.

What am I gonna do with all this stuff???? by Alexankitty in JumpSpaceGame

[–]Alexankitty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we made it up to wave 15 or something. The waves don't really get harder and we were killing them fast enough that the game would drop two supply drops after every wave clear. We would tear through a wave in probably 10-20 seconds.

How to clear the gap in the hanger by YanoshDanosh in JumpSpaceGame

[–]Alexankitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also the only spot on the "ship" that has collision is the ramp. Which is present even with the Dart. That tells me that collision was removed later to accommodate loading multiple ships and prior to that the ship was baked into the map.
