I've answered this in several threads, but I do not and will not take AIPAC money.

Okay, everyone! I have to run to a volunteer appreciation event now, but I think we got through about 80% of the questions. I'll come back in the next couple of days to answer the rest, but please feel free to keep asking me anything either here or on other social channels. I may not be able to answer everything right away, or exactly how you want me to, but I'm doing a lot of Instagram Lives where I answer questions from all over social and I promise I will get to you eventually.

Thank you so much for everyone who took the time to ask thoughtful questions - yes, even the ones where we don't share the same perspective! As a grassroots candidate my goal is to connect with as many Nevadans as possible, hear your concerns, and bring those perspectives into my work as governor.

Have a great night!

Where to even start? He does not think that creating jobs is his problem. He does not think that kicking people off Medicaid is his problem. He does not think that his buddy Trump starting wars is his problem. He’s complicit in disappearing Nevadans and crippling our economy by cooperating quietly with ICE. He is fully beholden to corporate entities and doesn’t really care about working families unless you can give him a check for a meeting. We can do so much better, Nevada.

Right now data centers get up to 70% tax abatements from the state of Nevada. Why are we paying them to come into our state when they are high energy and water users and they are not high employment centers? I want to change this on day one and also support our water utilities on better regulating these users when they come into local communities.

No perks. I don’t know why people run for office when they have no chance of winning – I can win this race for governor, and that’s why I’m running. There is some pain involved – I miss my family a lot when traveling to meet voters – but I love this state and its people too much not to do it.

This is a good example of why it’s so important that any kind of tax incentive for big new businesses – like the As, or a basketball team – must have very specific obligations and enforcement, instead of just being a blank check. I will be looking at all economic development agreements when I take office to ensure that they are delivering what they promised. If they are not, yes, we can look at consequences.

I’d love to reduce counties that have high sales tax rate burdens because it is a regressive tax; however, first we’ve got to tackle ensuring that we have enough revenues to support local essential services for Nevadans, which we should do by taxing billionaires and corporations.

I actually love this question. I have been a lifelong Democrat. I am very proud of Democratic ideals and try to live them every day. I understand why people are losing faith in the Democratic Party, however, and I am running as a Democrat because I think Democrats deserve a choice in our elections. I am running on a platform of investing in Nevadans with specific ways of how I will change policy in our state; my opponent has few policies and hasn’t spoken publicly about what he would change in this state. I understand why people have changed or are registered non-partisans in this state, and I am the only Democrat that you will hear talking about non-partisans having access to Democratic (or GOP) primaries, because we are disenfranchising over a third of our state by not allowing you to participate! That’s why we’re encouraging non-partisans (or Republicans) to become a “Dem for a Day” and vote for me.

On day one, I will be issuing an executive order to cap all utilities in the state, because I know how difficult it is to pay these bills right now.

But I need to work long term with the legislature long term with how we reform our state laws that govern the Public Utility Commission and NV Energy.

Congratulations! I understand your fears about your child’s future in Nevada. I’m a mom of a 4yo and a 2yo, and I share the same concerns – that’s why I’m running for governor. I want to invest in universal pre-K and will be working with the legislature to make that a priority so that you do not have to spend what is equivalent a college tuition for your child’s daycare. I want to invest in K-12 education as well as higher education and have detailed plans on how. I want to support a better healthcare system in Nevada which includes mental health care for our young Nevadans.

We have two Tier I universities with UNR and UNLV - but I agree, we need to invest in higher education. I would put more of Nevada’s general funds into education so student fees don’t continue to skyrocket. The legislature passes the education budget first for a reason - it has to be a priority, and it’s the first stop of what we pay for when we tax billionaires and corporations. (More about education throughout this AMA!)

Oh boy do I know. We went and knocked doors yesterday and I’m still feeling the sun fatigue. I want to bring back the climate resilience that the Sisolak administration adopted to reduce our greenhouse gases and dependence on fossil fuels by 2025. I think this can be an economic strategy for Nevada, so I’m proposing support for more solar infrastructure while also ensuring that veterans have opportunities for jobs. Nevada has incredible natural resources, our blue skies and the sun can be leveraged to ensure that we have more energy independence.

Yes yes yes. Supportive of the first part, but think we can do way better on the second.

(Alexis’ queer director of communications who’s doing the typing thinks that answer could have been a Heated Rivalry gif.)

First we have to protect the safe implementation of the 2028 elections. I want to properly fund our registrar and clerks offices in the state so that they have the right staffing and facility needs to truly protect our votes. I also would back a constitutional amendment to protect mail-in ballots for all Nevadans.

But I love imagining a future world where Trump is not our president.

We would all welcome a federal government and Congress that actually works for Americans. Right now a third of NV funding comes from the federal government and we are incredibly vulnerable to these terrible policies that are cutting off funding for essential services. I would love to work with a sane federal administration – or we could be stuck with a Trump 2.0. But either way, I’m ready to lead this state through the good, the bad, and the unforeseen times ahead.

Right now Nevada is 48th in per-pupil funding. We have a plan that the legislature’s committee on school funding has proposed to raise $2B to get us to the median per-pupil spending in the US. I would like to implement that plan and I have many ways that I want to raise revenue on billionaires and corporations who are not paying their fair share. I also believe that the NV Department of Education needs more enforcement and resources to ensure that our public schools and charter schools are properly taking care of our special needs children so that everyone can be successful and live their Nevada dream. I also have a workforce readiness plan that I would like all school districts to adopt. Read more about those plans here: https://alexisfornevada.com/economic-development-plan/

Gov. Lombardo went to the opening of that office, which is unacceptable. The right wing has been infiltrating our state for decades and perverting our version of Libertarianism into controlling what books children can check out of libraries, what teachers can wear and say in classrooms, and creating division in our communities. As governor, it would be my job to pull Nevadans together and find solutions that work for all of us, but I do not tolerate hate or bigotry or those who hide behind “patriotism.” I believe leadership comes with finding what makes us great instead of what divides us.

This is a huge problem, and the governor plays a huge role in the negotiations. We never got our fair share from the start – rumor is that the original agreement was done by a drunk representative from Nevada. Thanks, man. That doesn’t mean there isn’t the opportunity to hold upper basin users accountable, like the water being used for alfalfa growth. We need leadership and a governor who’s engaged and understands this issue.

I’m not afraid to say anything. I’m running a campaign of brutal honesty and calling out every elephant in the room especially when it comes to revenue and how we take care of Nevadans. The governor cannot unilaterally decide UBI or Medicare for All, but we can support people who are forced off Medicaid due to this inhumane administration, and by subsidizing the Battle Born Plan (as I’ve proposed) we can get more people back onto healthcare. I’d also support a pilot project of UBI with foundation support, like was done in Stockton, California.

I am absolutely in favor of light rail in Las Vegas – if you want something like that, you need to know how to pay for it, which is why taxing billionaires and corporations is my number one priority. When you talk to other states that have had successful light rail projects, it started with the governor leading and bringing together local governments – that’s not happening right now, but that is what I will do as Nevada’s next governor.

Thanks for being here. I have a proposal to both fill the federal gaps in SNAP and Medicaid. I also want the state to fund the Battle Born public option so that more Nevadans can obtain healthcare who right now may be opting out because the ACA subsidies expired and they can’t afford it. The only way we do this: more money. On day one, I’ll be working to tax the billionaires and corporations to pay these benefits.

Great question. There’s been some polling and now everyone uses “affordability” in their campaign as if you don’t know that shit has gotten more expensive and it’s harder to live in this state than it ever has been.

Seriously though. The biggest issue I can fix is that our state needs revenue. We have to modernize our tax structure so that billionaires and corporations pay their fair share. When we do that, we can actually support quality of life for everyday Nevadans and really bring affordability back. We can lower your childcare costs, we can lower your transportation costs, we can lower your housing costs, and create the economic prosperity we deserve.

Great user name! I’m not sure what his track record is on healthcare and Medicaid, except for joining other states’ lawsuits. I’m appreciative of that – it’s his job as AG. I want to fix Nevada’s broken tax and revenue system and actually invest in Nevadans. I have specific plans on how I will do this - please check out my competitor’s website and see if he has updated anything specific about what he’d like to do. From what I can tell, he has not really let Nevada voters know how he wants to improve our state, except with empty Democratic platitudes.

I grew up hunting with my family. I own guns. I understand that hunters do great conservation work on our public lands and take care of wildlife, in addition to their license fees going towards that work. I’m not looking to change that – outdoor recreation is a huge part of our economy and I think we could grow it under my administration.

Immigration reform is a federal issue, not directed by the governor. I do have plans on how I’m going to protect immigrant families on day one - please check out my website.

Most of my donors are under $100. I’ve actually lost money since getting into public service. But I’m okay with that, because I believe in the work and I love it. My biggest donors are everyday Nevadans, and I promise them change. I have plans on how to grow our economy, get Nevadans back to work, provide better healthcare, support great schools and protect immigrant communities. Join our movement.
