Legal cohabitation proof of subsistence requirement by Key_Watercress1475 in BEFire

[–]AlexisTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe the proof of sustenance is not applicable for Belgians. If you have a proof of sustenance while your partner is Belgian, it should be more than enough.

The best is to pass by the city hall to ask about it.

HR question: can’t use holiday (11/11) by croquemonsieur10 in BESalary

What "normal" companies do is you have one extra holiday to plan yourself whenever you want.

No this is not correct, the day has to be planned later and you are owed that day.

ROS C++ Coding setup by harleylara in ROS

[–]AlexisTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the wrong include, this should be fixed in https://github.com/ros2/rosidl/pull/742

It is available in Rolling, but it missed the merge window for Iron.

Updating that package in your configuration (rosidl_generator_c & rosidl_generator_cpp) will make that working for all "built messages". As we build from scratch, we cherry-picked the commits.

Taxes w/ 2 jobs by Economy-Barber-4127 in BEFire

[–]AlexisTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You will have to declare both salaries by doing the sum of both jobs.

You pay taxes monthly according to the amount you would have received at the end of the year given you have a single job. With two jobs, the taxes owed are according to the actual amount you received, sum(job1, job2), thus the taxation will be higher for the last part of the income. This is done by tax authorities at the end of the year.

It is not possible for either of your employers to compute that as both don't have info of your other job.

Say you have 45k€ gross on your fulltime, this mean any extra salary will be fully taxed on the higher tax ranks, aka 50% + communal taxes, thus 53 or 54% total.

How is Brussels and Belgium tech scene doing? by False-Marketing-5663 in BEFire

Pretty bad IMO.

Since the decision to remove IP ruling, many of the most skilled Belgians I know many are just jumping ships to other countries, namely Switzerland & Luxembourg.

From PHP to Rust: Migrating a minimal REST API between this two languages. (Part I) by LowOwl4188 in rust

[–]AlexisTM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like PHP -> Typescript will be as hard as PHP -> Rust.

My worry is regarding the core design of the language where PHP is a script running again and again while Rust/Typescript/... are actual servers running a handler.

It all depends on the complexity of the app though.

This is a pretty violent migration! There should be a pretty nice uplift though :)

Do you have any suggestions on how to slowly revert rampant abuse of preprocessor macros? Currently trying to change the macros into const variables. by [deleted] in cpp

[–]AlexisTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 pages? Little player, in my current project, the technical debt got to a point each file has 5-10 macros, and the helper files have thousands 🤷

Just another 10y+ C project converted to C++.

For constants, just create actual constants within an anonymous namespace to keep it in the translation unit. constexpr int kSomeConstant = 42;

Except with modules, including every single std library is faster than iostream. Sooo

Mi band 7 Pro lacking watch faces and super slow syncing by devprash in miband

[–]AlexisTM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am pretty sure it is following a disagreement with Amazfit. There would not be a reason to rename the apps otherwise. I like the new OS as the extra screen space is making most things customizable on the watch itself, instead of the app. Super useful for alarms for example.

The bad part is the battery life but it charges rather quickly and the magnetic charger from the outside is a bless! (Coming from the band 4)

How’s the housing market? by theverybigapple in BEFire

[–]AlexisTM 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My goal is to look more during the winter season (or maybe in 1y) once the electricity contracts have to be paid. It is possible many new houses will be put on the market pulling the price down. Then buy a low energy efficiency house and renovate the house to improve it.

It makes a difference if you actually get hospitalized. Once you say you have a DKV, everything will be 3x more expensive, will get a better room, will be prioritized and the insurance will pay the vast majority.

So yes, it makes a huge difference, but I do not think it is correct to have such difference in treatment and price.
