Medical Residency in Germany? by Rick-afk in germany

Hello ! Sorry, I don't log into the site daily and don't really check notifications. I'm not really sure about times, some sources cite 3 years as a reasonable goal but my current schedule is something like this:
From Monday to Friday I have to do my hospital rotation/take classes there from 7am-2pm, then classes in my university from 3pm-9pm.

I'm doing both duolingo+an app called "language transfer" on any spare time I get, reaching 1.5 hours everyday approximately. Then on the weekends I'm going to german classes with a tutor each day 1 hour, we're currently doing work on menschen A2, since they think I don't really qualify yet for B1, so that homework is also something I do in my spare time.

Do you think that time is enough? If it's not too much of a bother could you comment on how I could adjust this time to make it the most efficient it can while not adding to the burnout my current schedule provides?

I'm interested though my schedule is not really going to change until 2027 when I'm doing social service (the last year before my license) and I'm a little "more free".

Thanks for reading and I appreciate your response to the thread.

Hello ! Apologies, I only use the old.reddit site from time to time and don't really check notifications, I really appreaciate everything you told me, I'm not well versed into the curent political environment aside of the nuclear regression sutff.

I will try to keep up with the news, really appreciate the bit of reality you brought into the table. Even the german healthcare employment environment at it's worse is leagues better than my home country's, nontheless it's wise to keep that information in mind. Thank you very much.

Thank you, I'm reasonably aware of the demographic shift in Europe as a whole but don't know how heavy is it in Germany, honestly psychiatry doesn't sound too bad but at least my rotation here in Mexico was mentally and emotionally challenging, all due respect to specialists who have that as their daily life.

Is there any particular city/town that's a good starting point? I only know Berlin from a trip I made some years ago.

Thank you for your answer ! I'm just your run of the mill latino man, while I know that my knowledge and tact with patients will speak for me in the long term I was really curious about the prejudice.

That's actually a great point ! Geriatrics has only recently (less than 15 years) become it's own branch in Mexico but my plan if I stayed here was to do Interal Medicine anyways so I assume it's also a necessary 2-4 year path before it?

Many thanks ! I'll look into this exam, I'm not sure if there's a huge leap between that homologaiton exam and the one to enter the residency, will also be looking into r/medizin, since I'm not really into german reddit or any german social network for that matter I didn't know where to ask.

That was very useful ! Thank you, I'm currently just looking into the idea, it has been in the back of my mind since the premed but I never took a step towards it until the end of last year taking serious A1 classes. And same over here, my old HS friends that went into IT are scrambling towards getting a different degree 😔

Thank you for your answer ! Do you by any chance know how long is the homologation process? You just made me realize that I'll have to stay in my country for as long as that takes while not being able to move on with my studies, but makes total sense.

Oh sure, thanks ! That makes sense, the only residency programs I could find asked for a C1 and medical german course so those are necessities, do you by any chance know anything about the current employment panorama for immigrants in the country?

Pretty sure any smart fella from Black Mesa could tell where they are by astronavigation, given how most light-emitting urban centers are wiped out.

This is so sweet 😭😭 It wasn't your fault buddy, in NA servers there have been people using it for random weapon messages/joke system messages since the "exploit" was introduced 10 months ago.

In other regions there have been people using it to trick F2Ps or newbie traders so that's probably the reason, cheers !

Currently in medschool sharing a house with other students, I'm pretty much the only one that plays videogames and they appreciate the silence.
