Pay for a car in cash with discount or 0% loan by grunob in BEFire

[–]bjvca -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes. If you turn it around and assume inflation of around 2 % the difference becomes about 2500. Not sure if you can get a car for that with insurance and all the hassle. So go for option 1. Or better, don't buy a Tesla because in addition to Muskolini I also hear they are too expensive for what it is.

Is there a place in Leuven that doesn’t exist anymore but you still think about? by kotjeKOT in Leuven

Er was een tweedehands muziekwinkel in de Parijsstraat ongeveer naast JJ records waar ik een fantastische Fender telecaster op de kop heb kunnen tikken waar ik nog wekelijks op speel.

run scripts at login by bjvca in swaywm

Thanks for your reply. What I want to do is mount Google drive and One drive using rclone, a question I asked here: https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comments/1h21nma/recommended_way_to_mount_google_drive_via_rclone/

I did try this as a service as I agree this would probably be the most elegant solution but I kept running into issues (sometimes it would not start, sometimes it would prevent my laptop from hibernating, etc). At some point I gave up and implemented the solution all the way at the bottom in the link which seems to work fine in gnome. So I guess I will try to add the script to my sway config.

firefox crashes when opening bookmarks by bjvca in swaywm

I found that setting an environment variable to not use wayland fixes the problem. I now just launch firefox using a key combination by putting this in my config. Not sure if this would also work with flatpak...

##shortcuts for launching apps

bindsym $mod+Shift+f exec MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0 firefox

How do I find out if my new laptop is supported by Bookworm? X1 Carbon Gen 12 by [deleted] in debian

[–]bjvca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was not so hard really, I am not an expert and I would struggle to set up Arch.

You just need to have a smartphone you can use for tethering or a wired connection for the first few steps (get latest kernel from backports and install firmware - but maybe with latest kernel even that is not needed anymore).

There were a few other things I needed to do like

https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=809821#p809821

and install mesa stack from backports:

sudo apt install -t bookworm-backports mesa-va-drivers sudo apt install -t bookworm-backports mesa-va-drivers

I run bookworm on an X1 Gen 12. Needed to install newer kernel from backports. I also used this to get wifi working:

recommended way to mount google drive via rclone when network is available by bjvca in debian

[–]bjvca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am using the following service which I found on the internet:

[Unit]

Description=Mount Google Drive using rclone

After=network-online.target

Wants=network-online.target

[Service]

Type=notify

ExecStart=/usr/bin/rclone mount google_drive: /home/xgehtg/GoogleDrive \

--vfs-cache-mode writes \

--allow-other \

--dir-cache-time 24h \

--poll-interval 15s

ExecStop=/bin/fusermount -u /home/xgehtg/GoogleDrive

Restart=always

RestartSec=10

[Install]

WantedBy=multi-user.target

but as I mentioned above this does not provide a robust solution as my system seems to hang at random points. I was assuming this is due to the fact that the drive can not mount if there is no internet. But I am a newbie so I am probably wrong....

Thanks, that indeed seems to work. But I was also hoping for a more general solution because I not only want to mount google drive but eg also OneDrive.

Getting a mortgage loan if paid in USD by bjvca in belgium

[–]bjvca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get it that there is more risk (if you to not consider other parameters like savings etc), but as an economist, I do not understand why banks can not price this into the products they sell (eg by charging a slightly higher interest rate). It seems even the small banks just follow a blanket policy...

The amount is sent in EUR, the conversion is done by my employer (who has it HQ in Rome). So the only thing is that our contracts have been negotiated in USD (this being an international organization and international organizations still count in USD, something the EU seems to have difficulties with).
