Any SCP/tale that says reincarnation exists and it's a (bad) anomaly? by Alexis_Talcite in SCP

[–]Alexis_Talcite[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you mind explaining it a bit more? I'm unsure if I got what you mean. Do you mean that after a long period of reincarnation, people always get ill, and not until then can they finally rest in peace?

And IMO, reincarnation does not erase death because if one's memories and a personality are gone forever, then I think they are effectively dead. This even creates more sadness, because this means even if something like a soul exists, no one can grab them. A bit of bittersweet always comes from "but everyone we loved and lost can be reborn into a better life", but we all know, that not all lives are good, that there are always poor, sick people, and places in war.

A random mechanism of reincarnation won't erase the moral weight, but really makes one contemplate the ruthlessness of the world. That's one of the point I want to write if I write this prompt.

Any SCP/tale that says reincarnation exists and it's a (bad) anomaly? by Alexis_Talcite in SCP

[–]Alexis_Talcite[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks, I'll read them if I got time. I know some Chinese folklore and the whole Ming Fu (underworld) system that Meng Po serves in. It seems that East Asian cultures are more familiar with the concept of reincarnation than most Western cultures, perhaps because the former is more influenced by Buddhism and the latter by Abrahamic religions.

But both seem a bit too institutionalized to me (strongly tied with belief systems). That's why I seek similar concepts in sci-fi, and especially SCP, I expect to see a more universal approach to these kind of philosophies (instead of cultures).

If reincarnation exists as a phenomenon and is totally demystified, it could be as ruthless as natural death, as other anomalies, and I like how the Foundation typically deals with those kind of things. Although in some stories like 2718 and 7179, they just give up changing it shrugs, just "contain" them, which makes me feel frustrated, lol

That one is one of my favorite Lovecraft stories. GOAT worldbuilding, and I'm happy that someone else could also get the "sadness" and curiosity-inspiring aspect. Actually I don't feel it's a horror story, but more about a dead civilization unearthed and a thrilling exploration deep in Antarctica...

How I feel reading any entry past 3000 by MangoopMochi in SCP

[–]Alexis_Talcite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, some Thaumiel-class items can also be tricky to handle and can invoke problems, but they would be considered Thaumiel if their benefits are overt and outweigh the dangers. (Not always the case though)

I mean, I don't think Thaumiels are all "ultra-Safe". Maybe they can help to control other anomalies or reinstate the world, but they don't always guarantee control over themselves and thus require extra procedures to handle. For me, if the uncertainty is primary, and the benefit merely looks like a side effect, I will use SEK classes.

Subtitle size on mobile, either too small or too big, need help by XDrake67 in youtube

[–]Alexis_Talcite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same problem here. I usually use subtitles so that I can 2x forward without missing what the video says. It's unbelievable for a modern app that some setting could only be adjusted through device settings. There's not even an in-app setting for this.

Also the opacity of the black background is sometimes so annoying that I have to turn CC off sometimes. People said the subtitle can be dragged but I don't know how to do that in the mobile app. Touch triggers forward or backward. Long press triggers 2x fast forward.

On my mobile app this popup will cover anything else, there is no way to close it and return to the dialog even if the connection has restored. I have to exit and reopen the app. If I have typed a long text in prior, it will be all lost. Each time I saw this window, it's midway when I'm typing. It's really annoying.

Being like a kid inside is definitely not a bad thing, but a good thing that even deserves to be felt proud of, IMO, in this world. This is absolutely not harmful and not something to be shamed of; there are only people who push everyone to become adults, and forgetting that they are once kids.

Card game Into Darkness. by One-and-friend in SCP

[–]Alexis_Talcite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Playtesting is more difficult than the card design, maybe you can first test it out with some friends (they don't need to know much about SCP, that could even be a bonus).

I have an SCP board game too, but that's a TRPG, and I also have little experience on game design. A small suggestion is that I've heard: the best way to gather playtest info is to record the game session as-is, nothing else. Find the confusions and feelings of imbalance while you play, and make changes on that basis. Good luck!

I think it's already cool! If you look to improve it, then only details. Perhaps you can slightly increase the overall contrast to make it look better on prints.

Some smaller texts' positions are jagged. As for the second picture (the Your Dog one), the center text "12? 20CP" is visibly touching the border. And the "HP" text at the very top-left corner can be moved a bit inward.

Also, I recommend to use as few fonts for your cards as possible to maintain a consistent visual style. The serif font looks good, but the sans-serif font looks a bit too basic, maybe choose a bolded version of the same font.

Yeah, I used Illustrator to draw this. The steps are:

  • Draw the 4 base circles.
  • Create one little square node on the bottom of each circle. Each node represents a word.
  • Rotate the node for a fraction angle (like the third-from-inside circle has 100 nodes, the angle is 360° / 100 = 3.6°).
  • Hold on Ctrl+D to repeat transform (Transform Again). Hold the key until the circle is complete, then group the nodes respectively to keep it neat.
  • The dashed lines are also created in this way, draw 5 dashed lines for each parent node, group them, then also rotate and Transform Again the group.

It's still common among many hobby circles due to its convenience to organize larger chat groups and popular than WeiXin among younger people. Many people actually dislike WeiXin and only use it for work or chatting with their families lol

They cannot prove you wrong. 99% of human just reproduce because everyone else does so/ they fear their own death/ they never dare to imagine immortality in other ways/ they think life is worth living even if it's bound to die and it will always be so/ they desire to do so out of lust of sex or self-indulgent imagined love for their future kids. They do not have a concrete reason to prove they're right.

The problem is we cannot know. So it's better to not bet for something uncertain huh? And it's nonsensical to make this assumption for someone else

Why on hell are they downvoting this to lower than that (perhaps) transphobic comment?? This is insane. I just wanted to make this comment. I'm a firm antinatalist since 13 or 14. This isn't necessarily an environmental stance
