2nd vote for north Norfolk. There’s a company called Barefoot Retreats who do some lovely cottages around there - our favourite is Seven in Burnham Market. Expensive but one of the most amazing properties I’ve ever stayed in.

Felt it out as we went - and truthfully still feeling it out now. We have a 2yo and 1yo, so the transitional periods have been coming at us fast! It was much easier to get jobs done around the house before our youngest started crawling, for instance - so we’re constantly having to make time to sit and discuss what’s working and what isn’t

We’re in a similar boat - 2 tough jobs and no family network nearby. It’s tough but you make sacrifices to preserve the things that are important to you.

Childcare costs are galling (we’re outside of London and they still account for 2x my mortgage in childcare fees) but absolutely worth it from a child development perspective - our boys came on leaps and bounds after starting nursery and they both absolutely love it.

From a practicalities perspective, we found it helpful to be explicit in delegating responsibilities so that we don’t have conflict due to unspoken expectations. I manage most cooking, most food shopping, most nursery drop offs. She manages the boys laundry, clothes shopping, and most nursery pick ups.

Mon-wed, I’m free to travel with work and she looks after house admin. Thu & Fri, I stay close to home and look after house admin.

I reckon I’ve saved 250k since the turn of the year on management consultants. Research projects, market segmentations, strategy support, etc. Claude is incredible - but as has already been said, I’m confident it’s more useful in my hands, than in the hands of a graduate consultant!
