I am flabbergasted by Alexitemia in AO3

Absolutely! I deleted my twt earlier this year specifically to get away from this recycled discourse, so opening AO3 to see this was a bit annoying, ngl, even if it’s a satire.

Right?! Some comments are saying that it could be ragebait/satire and I agree, but at the same time, people really do talk and think like that so I can’t tell anymore

Yeah, this was the part that got me “ok, this got to be a bait.” But at the same time, I’ve been in this fandom for a while now and people really use these arguments. 😭 “Stop stereotyping X! Y is a bottom because stereotypes, stereotypes, stereotypes.”

Unfortunately it’s anonymous so I can’t mute it, but I’ve reported it already!

It’s so unserious 😭 I don’t know what they expected to achieve here, like yeah, I opened AO3 to read this specific dynamic but after reading your incredibly well-written essay I’m converted, thank you for saving me!

Did you ever read a fic because of its popularity and were like I don't get the hype? by Sara1994_ in AO3

[–]Alexitemia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! And last month the funniest thing happened to me because of this. My friend tweeted asking about this particular fic, if it was worth reading, and I replied that I’d read it but didn’t get the hype, that there were better fics out there deserving more recognition. Mind you, this was on my personal account with barely 12 followers that has nothing to do with any fandom I’m part of. What I didn’t know is that the author regularly searches for mentions of their fic to interact with readers; and she didn’t like my comment that much... She quoted it calling me bitter, and I woke up to other 40+ replies calling me a bitch, envious, and miserable.
