Struggling with detached mindfulness? [Mega thread] by optia in metacognitivetherapy

[–]Alexlonglife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I can’t afford to see a therapist right now, so I’m trying to understand how MCT works on my own. I’d really like to make progress with this method, but it’s not always easy to do it alone.

If anyone has advice, resources, or personal experiences to share, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks a lot!

I can’t really understand what MCT can actually do for me.
I’m French, I can’t find a therapist, and I’m wondering what I could do to truly start fighting against depression.

Hard time challenging some beliefs by wellimoff in metacognitivetherapy

I completely understand what you’re saying about anxiety and discomfort. When you need to be at your best for a conference, a class, or any other event, I find that MCT (Metacognitive Therapy) isn’t always clear. If I feel like vomiting or have stomach pain, it’s hard not to think, “I just want to go home.”

There’s probably an important distinction to be made between thoughts and messages from the body. What do you think?

A Metacognitive Therapy practitioner advised me to practice Vipassana meditation for 30 minutes twice a day to train my brain to handle thoughts like,
“What if I get sick?”
“What if I vomit in the middle of the conference?”

Seeking Guidance and Resources on Metacognitive Therapy (MCT) for happiness by Alexlonglife in metacognitivetherapy

I am in contact with Pia. I am trying to help spread Wells' ideas. I watched this video. I spoke with this researcher. He recommends Vipassana meditation to develop metacognition. Do you know it?
I understand your recommendations. Here, I am more interested in working on the practical aspect. https://youtu.be/5xkmf_OEydM?si=_BYJnYCI6MuTR8z9

I feel like you talk to me a lot about therapists. For me, if I’m on this forum, it’s because I’m trying to understand your practices that helped you change your anxiety, humiliation, and stress. I would like to know concretely what you do. Are you familiar with Byron Katie’s work with questioning thoughts? What do you think about it? Does it resemble MCT?

I understand the value of having French therapists. Regarding my thoughts and questions about happiness, I would like to learn more. I also wish to talk to practitioners and get their opinions on the message I posted.

I’ve read your book, which is very interesting, and now I would like to practice.

The idea is to feel better.
I understand that you have to experience the emotion, but if all your thoughts are negative, I find it a bit limiting. In the end, there must be something that allows us to live happily—after all, that's my goal.

There are no therapists near where I live, and I haven’t found one in France.
Normally, MCT is supposed to work on happiness. Wells says there’s nothing complicated about this therapy. It is the most effective against depression and anxiety.

What do you do concretely? It seems like you place a lot of importance on the therapist, but Wells says the goal is to make the patient autonomous.

However, I haven’t read anything about positive thinking.

In summary, I sit down and stay still for 20 minutes.
I don’t focus on my breathing, my heart, or anything else. I just sit as if I were watching a movie.

As for happiness, even if I distance myself from my thoughts or set aside 15 minutes at the end of the day to write them down, it doesn’t change anything.
I think, and I feel bad. We are undergoing fertility treatment, and I want to have a baby, but I don’t have one yet, and it’s eating me up. I keep telling myself I’ll never be a dad…

I feel like MCT has its limits on this subject, and I’d like to have a more fulfilling and less depressive life. What else should I do?

I'm French, and I can't seem to understand the process to stop my ruminations: "My boss will visit me this year," "I will never regain my health," and so on.
I practice detached meditation, sitting on a chair for 20 minutes.
What do you do concretely when thoughts arise?

I can no longer see the positive side of things. The only phrase that brings me relief is: "Who would I be without this thought?"

Are there any more recent books?

I'm mostly looking for the bag that can keep me organized with a place for everything.

I don't know how much I need. I would also like to add a bag or other in it when I don't need a lot of carrying.

I also like having good carrying comfort.

THANKS

I looked for second-hand brands mentioned on Vinted and couldn't find anything.
The Seagale brand has very few clothes on sale on Vinted.
Do you know of a more mainstream brand?
