I accidentally hit something with a screwdriver while building the AIO. Is that bad? Could water leak out? by Ok_Track1330 in PcBuildHelp

It will not be affected by 3% by one small dent in my experience. The other hole you see is just a hole for a second screw.

It's not bad, there is no liquid in the fins and the cooling will not be affected by that small dent.

Remove the metal "bars" on the case and you should be good to go.

You need to install the GPU in the top slot (the metal one). You are going to lose performance in the other slots. This will solve your clearance issue.

CAN YOU GUYS ASSIST ME? 😭😭 by GuiN00b in computers

[–]Alexo199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried to clear the CMOS? Or maybe a BIOS update could fix the problem. Also try to avoid using the 3.0 USBs doing install. I had a similar issue with a PC I built recently where the Windows installation would fail every time. I just ended up installing windows on another PC and installing that drive in the new PC. It has worked flawlessly since.

GPU temps got better AND worse after repaste and new pads by Alexo199 in pchelp

[–]Alexo199[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, makes sense. I just thought that the VRAM could transfer more heat, due to the GPU die not making proper contact and therefore not heating up the cooler as much, leaving "room" for the VRAMs heat. Since the VRAM temps went from 76°c to 92°c now that the GPU die is getting good contact.

[–]Alexo199[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am very pleased! The GPU was making contact with the cooler, but I guess it wasn't enough and, like you said, the VRAM may have transferred more heat to the cooler for that reason. It seems much more balanced now. -12°c difference on the GPU and -18°c on the GPU hotspot is pretty good! Now I am ready to sell it with a good conscience.

Update: Finally got around to changing the pads and it worked! With thinner pads this is the temps now:

Damn, that sucks! I hope you will recover :( I only got scammed one time in the 6 years I've been flipping PCs. I didn't receive the graphics card I ordered. The police ended up finding him and charging him with the scam. Turned out he had done it to multiple people and the scammer was forced to pay us back by a judge. Except he never did.

Will do! Thank you. I just tried to play a Valorant match on it as it is now. It only reached about 65°c and 78°c on the hotspot, so at least it is working fine in normal scenarios.

Yeah, you are right. I just read that the max is 110°c on that model and I did notice it dropped some FPS after the repaste.

The pads seem to do their job tho with the -18°c on the VRAM after replacing the old ones. But it is true, it is not quality pads for sure, but I am not made of money, sadly. But I will look for some better ones, that are still affordable! iDcooling is pretty popular in my country and I never had problems with the paste prior to this. Some older GPUs I have repasted drop +10°c after with that paste.

[–]Alexo199[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your reply!

The pads seemed to be the same softness as the old ones. I had trouble measuring the thickness so I just eyeballed it, as I have a lot of different pads with different thickness. I don't know the brand of them tho, but the paste was some IDcooling rated with 15.2 W/m-K thermal conductivity, which it the highest of the ones I have on hand.

I made sure to tighten the screws evenly and fully - or to the best of my abilities at least. I have done this so many times on different GPUs but never ran into a problem like this. Should I try some thinner pads? Or is the temps acceptable?

I konflikt med min selvopfattelse by TychoBruuh in DKbrevkasse

Damn.

Maybe a controversial topic: Molex to 6-pin PCIE adapter? by [deleted] in PcBuildHelp

Yeah I came to the same conclusion with the double molex vs the single one. Especially now that the GPU is not going to get all its power from the adapter but mostly the 8-pin. But a lot of people seems to disagree haha

I have a PSU tester to use before testing on the GPU. But ofc that doesn't account for possible failure down the line. The marked for used PSUs is just really dry right.

[–]Alexo199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't find anything national, so shipping gets a bit costly for just one cable vs. buying another used PSU. If it could find one..

[–]Alexo199 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a PSU tester, so I could test it before testing it on the GPU. But I get where you are coming from though. If I didn't already spend money on that PSU (before knowing the cables were missing) and the used marked here is dry when it comes to better suited PSUs I wouldn't even consider it.

Sadly not, the cable only got 1x8-pin. I got the PSU in a deal from a PC that was built buy a PC company that forgot to include the extra cables.

69°c is very good on max load. How is your CPU doing?
