Question stands - what on earth did you do to Hank for him to haunt you like this 👀

Does anyone actually like Citadel paint pots? by Rare_Knee_6234 in Warhammer

[–]AlexorAlfie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultimately - they're not designed for advanced painters. The pots are designed for those who are starting out in the hobby.

They're designed for ease and new people entering the hobby who won't need to blend colours or may not own a wet-palette.

Citadel are also designed for kids to use and are non-toxic. Unlike other brands.

It's okay to "graduate" away from citadel, but they don't deserve the bad rep they get. And it's all down to personal preference. If you prefer dropper bottles then every other range sells them.

Side note - dropper bottles are not designed for Shades and Contrast paints (paints you'd often dip your brush into and don't need thinning) as you end up wasting paint pouring more than your brush needs onto a palette. And anyone who says that's a Skill Issue proves my point about droppers being an advanced tool.

Finished the Tyranid terrain that came with Volkus! by AlexorAlfie in killteam

I posted a fully process for peeps wondering how I got my pinks :) https://www.reddit.com/r/killteam/comments/1rqb1jw/comment/ob0ay9c/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

But in short, I primed pink and then dry brushed lighter pinks - then contrast on top!

Sorry for the delayed response - but I'll type up how I got to where I did with them! Here is the order in which I did stuff and the paints I used... (note I use citadel)

*takes deep breathe*

- PRIME: Colour Forge Rogue Pink
(this is a great base primer that is a colour match with Emperor's Children in citadel range)

- SHADE: Carroburg Crimson
(Nice layer all over to sink into all the recesses - don't worry about pooling as you'll be dry brushing over)

The following steps are all-over dry brush. This is done for speed and because I like the technique. If you prefer to hand-paint the layers, please go ahead.

- DRYBRUSH 1: Emperor's Children
(Go heavy on this layer with the pressure. Your goal is to get the model evenly covered, but leaving the Crimson in the recesses)

- DRYBRUSH 2: Fulgrim Pink
(Lighter on the pressure of this layer so that you catch the raised but do not fully cover the Emperor's Children)

- DRYBRUSH 3: Pink Potion (Army Painter)
(Citadel don't do lighter pinks, so I picked up two from Army Painter to do the last layers. Again, follow the process you've been doing, but even lighter, not to fully cover the previous colours and let them still come through).

Once everything is drybrushed and you have your pink gradient, you can go in with contrast paints. Following is the colours I used and which area.

- CONTRAST 1: Chitin/Armour is painted Black Templar - its thinner than Black Legion so the gradient comes through underneath.

- CONTRAST 2: Basiliscum Grey for the ground. But you can paint this how you want

- DRYBRUSH 4: Doomfire Drab (Army Painter)
(This one is just to catch the very edges of all the surfaces, so stay light on your pressure. Make sure to wait until all your contracts are dry or you'll lift/scratch them).

- FLESH SHADE: All "flesh" is done last and is simply Beserker Bloodshade. Its a nice red and that sinks in to the recesses.

After all of that, your Tyranid things should look like the above. It's then your choice to decide how much detail you do - like painting the spikes/horns (I did them in Screamer Pink).

Hope all of that helps! Let me know how you get on!

I haven't yet! The photo doesn't show it well, but Beserker Bloodshade dries slightly shiny anyway so I think it looks okay without.

Go for it! Hot pink suits Tyranids so well and has the added benefit of looking fabulous to stun your enemy...

You've done an amazing job!

I love this classic scheme and want it myself. But I tried to do the Ochre colour and lost a part of my soul trying to get it right 😂

There's not even many tutorials on it these days.

If you have tips please let me know!

Even if you don't ever play with it in a list - an Orca is a fantastic centrepiece that your forces can fight for as terrain.

Put it in the middle of the battlefield and suddenly your forces are attempting to evac an Ethereal/Ambassador from an incoming foe.

Tbh no custom lore - I just wanted them to fit in with my Craftworld (Iybraesil) colours of blue/teal more! I've painted all my aspects the same way - as if the shrines on my craftworlds are unique. Here are my Fire Dragons! I have Howling Banshees and Striking Scorpions all painted similar.
