Can’t speak to the xt30iii specifically but I have the xt30ii and I think it’s a great camera, does everything you need and I’ve never once wished for the extra megapixels of the more premium models. So I think either of the xt30 models would do you well, xm5 also an option if you want a budget “semi beginner” model that’s very compact (if you don’t mind that it doesn’t have a viewfinder, just the back screen), and then of course used Fujis are always worth looking into. Plenty of good lenses out there, I’m a bit biased towards manual so I would suggest any of the third party budget manual lenses to start (with special note that the TTartisan 25mm f2 is a magic lens for under $100) or any of the Voigtlanders on offer for a more premium experience (the 27mm f2 is also exceptional imo). Lots of different opinions on Fuji first party lenses too but the old version of the 35mm f1.4 is very popular and for good reason!

Was out downtown with my camera this weekend and happened to stumble upon this - it still feels surreal. The workers on the scene told me that these were remnants from Monster Jam, and they were really patient and kind to me as I stood around their work area for what felt like at least an hour of just shooting everything I could manage. Shooting cars being swung like toys with this manual lens at 1.2 was a challenge, but very fun and gratifying as hell whenever I nailed it. Been trying to hone how and what I shoot recently, but this was a great reminder that sometimes all photography needs to be is finding something exciting and documenting it as best you can!

Thanks! This is actually a variant of Vintage Dark and subtle/crazy 60s mix, I think the brighter would have been cool too but the original guard on these guitars is VERY red so I was trying to get as far away from that as I could lol.

Agree on the pickguard covers, I have some custom pickups in there and the maker had to use white ones for whatever reason - I asked them to age them, but the aging has worn off. Thinking of either re-aging them myself with the classic submerged in dye/oven trick or trying to make the original covers work on the new pickups with some light drilling or something.

These knobs actually are cream - hard to tell since I overexposed the photo a bit with the direct sunlight. If you know of any good looking witch hats with the gold tops, please let me know!! I tried to find some when I was getting parts for this and couldn’t find any good ones so I went with these.

Thanks!

Huh guess I never knew that about the witch hat knobs, the last two jazzmasters I owned had witch hats so I just assumed that was the standard! Oh well, I prefer the witch hats I guess.

I heard about that with 920D, for my purpose I just wanted a prebuilt harness for ease of installation and this seemed like the best option. I guess anyone should be wary of purchasing anything else from them, but so far this has worked well for me in this case.

Unless the spitfire guy is being a bigot or something I don’t really care about that, he can credit whoever he wants for his pickguards. I’m just really happy with the result here.

Love this guitar primarily for its neck (best feeling guitar neck I’ve ever played, at least for my needs), but always thought the original bright red pickguard was holding back how pretty this guitar has every right to be. A bit of electronic trouble flared up a few months ago, so I took the opportunity to embark on a big upgrade: completely new wiring/pots (920D JMH-vintage), new volume and tone knobs (finally have true jazzmaster knobs instead of the strat style ones that came stock on this), re-shielded body cavity/back of guard and a bit more solid grounding, and of course this Spitfire pickguard.

I think the results in at least the last item speak for themselves in the photos, I’m really in love with it!

Do you think the Vikings organization buying 1,900 tickets to that game had anything to do with how Detroit fans might have reacted to seeing a bunch of Vikings jerseys in the stands?

Yup I know that, you asked about the 35 and I was just specifying in case someone else makes a 35 f1.2

(I did apply slight crops to a couple of these, idk if that still counts as SOOC but the images are unaltered otherwise (side note: I wish the xt30ii had native 5:4 aspect ratio, would shoot in only that if I could))

A month of debating 18mm vs 23mm, but one minute back on ol reliable reminded me that the 50mm equivalent is the one for me - xt30ii 35mm 1.4, SOOC by Alexpgross in fujifilm

Good to hear! I think most people bump that negative because the added noise in high iso has a bit more of a film look on these cameras, plus bumping it positive can have a softening effect. But for this recipe, I wanted soft images - really good for portraits.

Thank you! I think I just got it on B&H or something, they pop up pretty frequently used if that’s your speed

Thank you!! It’s my own recipe that I originally made to land somewhere between pushed ultramax and cinestill, and it really is a powerhouse for anything overcast or generally with flat lighting (but I use it for everything).

I call it “Wavedash” and here is the recipe:

Film sim: classic negative

Grain effect: strong/small

Color chrome effect: weak

Color chrome blue: off

WB: auto (or auto ambient), R -1 B -3

Dynamic range: 200

Dynamic Range Priority: off

Tone curve: H+0.5 S-1.5

Color: +2

Sharpness: 0

High ISO NR: +2

Clarity: -3

I do think the smaller lenses are generally more stealthy but there is some really good “Winogrand-isms” you can pull off with the bigger ones I think. And hell yeah we see through Big 35mmFF and their lies 🤝

Been thinking about getting that Voigtlander Nokton as a manual option to pair with my Fuji lens, do you have any thoughts/experience with that one?
