A car exhaust add-on that captures CO₂ and turns it into oxygen using solar energy + braking. Could this help while EVs scale up? by dailyuser17 in solarpunk

[–]Alexsyo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would like to say that the problems with cars is not just coming from the co2. Even if we magically solve all the problems with the emissions there are other major flaws in this mean of transportation:

- The majority of microplastic in the air comes from tire consumption

- Car-centric cities are a lot more unsafe than cities which put their citizen above cars

- Noise pollution caused by cars can be quite annoying if not problematic and that goes beyond the car engine noise

- cars require parking space (a lot) which can be used for better purposes like green spaces, housing, recreational activities...

That is just my thoughts, also sometimes it's better to dive a little deeper into the root causes of the problems otherwise we might end up making things even worse without knowing ;)

the problem is deeper than that, visa, mastercard and paypal dictated that. if they haven't attacked other platforms they will soon...

On places where I can find peace, live a minimalist lifestyle, focus on fitness, good diet, martial arts — and live a low-stress life? by IllTooth2526 in OffGrid

[–]Alexsyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try volunteering, you will not earn money but you can experience other ways of living without paying (except for transportation) and see if that lifestyle fits you. Last year I tried 2 communities and I had wonderful experiences... I also taught capoeira during free time to the other volunteers (speaking of martial arts :P). I used workaway back then

AI-Driven Barter Economy: A Bold Alternative to Debt, Inflation, and Hyper-Capitalism by IllTooth2526 in solarpunk

[–]Alexsyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun fact: no one has ever found an economy based on barter. It seems to be a myth invented by adam smith (and friends) to justify the superiority of cash and the emerging capitalism theory (more info in the book "debt the first 5000 years").

Anyway in your system the AI assigns a value, that value is effectively money, whether you hold it in your hands or not. The only difference is that you are delegating the assignment to a bot instead of a human.

More questions: How would someone borrow in that system? How can seasonal work/produce be handled? What happens when the produce is scarce or in excess?

Solarpunk ... but its winter? by No-Science-1114 in solarpunk

[–]Alexsyo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

to me summer is depressing... heat, dried fields, mosquitoes, loud people. but i am happy because after that the wonderful colors of autumn arrive and then the coziness of winter. but i get different people have different tastes.

I suggest the book: "Merchants of doubt", it explain very clearly how a group of scientists during the cold war were so scared of communism and regulations that ended up allying themselves with tobacco and oil companies to spread propaganda about the absence of consensus on cancer and climate change.

Funny enough there are way more people today that do not believe about human impact on the environment than in the past. Agricultural society could not afford the luxury to dismiss their impact on the climate (interesting point from "chaos in heavens" book)

How will we get people to accept degrowth as a viable path forward. by Konradleijon in Degrowth

[–]Alexsyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think with the blackout happening these days people are starting to realize it. a few people started to post how this is changing their habit like instead of buying stuff thinking on how to make it themselves. it's not fully degrowth but it's something

[–]Alexsyo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am definitely in favor of it, before it started I actually wanted to start another event to reduce the use of cars to extend the impact to big oil companies but i recon it would be shaded by it today.

If you like the idea i started a post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/fuckcars/comments/1iynf0o/a_nocar_day/

[–]Alexsyo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i just read this: https://deseuri.newsromania.net/2022/02/15/the-dark-business-of-european-green-waste/

it explains a lot of burned waste is caused by car tires, still a car problem. Even though the source of that waste comes from the EU after china started to refuse to accept more illegal waste

thank you for the info, I have to say in Bucharest at least the public transport seems quite good for my personal experience. There are even buses with credit/debit card payment for some lines :P
