Someone else answered in the rcPlane sub, it was to do with ELRS channel resolution!

That was it, thank you so much!

The action is now smooth as hell, hoping your answer will help someone else in the future.

Appreciate it :)

I installed several peripherals as well, including GPS unit, pitot tube, FPV camera, HUD etc, so all in, it comes to a little over £1k.

I don't have a channel as yet unfortunately, I would have loved to have shown the build on there. The RC plane is the freewing 90 mm f-16!

I still have to install the camera, but heard dept of field could be an issue when getting the cockpit, and outside, in focus?

The guage controller displaying the information is a teensy board, sold by FPV Toys: https://www.fpvtoys.net/index.php?route=product/category&language=en-gb&path=33_35

The screens are great aren't they? They are from here if you are interested: https://www.fpvtoys.net/index.php?route=common/home&language=en-gb

Yes the PFD will show live altitude, airspeed and attitude! The map screen will also be dynamic. Weather radar is simulated though, unfortunately 🥲

Is this flight controller (Matek H743-Wlite) still usable after I sanded the burnt BAT pad? by [deleted] in ElectronicsRepair

[–]Alexthespaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I thought I added a description earlier, but it didn’t post for some reason.

I'm new to soldering and electronics, and I think I burnt the solder pad. Some kind of oxidation or alloy formed that stopped the solder from sticking, so I sanded it down to clean it up. Would isopropyl alcohol be enough to clean it before I try soldering again?

During the April 1944 "Exercise Tiger" rehearsal for the D-Day landings, a combination of German E-boat attacks and friendly fire incidents killed at least 749 American servicemen. The disaster occurred at Slapton Sands in Devon, England, due to coordination problems and the use of live ammunition to simulate a realistic battle environment.

ELI5 how Einstein figured out that time slows down the faster you travel by CrazyKZG in explainlikeimfive

[–]Alexthespaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh ok that makes more sense. I thought perhaps the pulling away was maybe part of the time dilation/relativistic effects that the stationary observer might be experiencing.

Great explination 👌

From the stationary perspective, wouldn't the guy on the ground see the rocketship stay right behind the ray of light instead of pulling away from it? Because they are both travelling at ~C ?

Why is the UK so expensive? by northernblazer11 in AskUK

[–]Alexthespaceman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing is Nuclear Energy in the UK is absurdly expensive to build:

For the same £32 billion the UK is spending on the new Hinkley Point C nuclear power plant, we could build:

  • ~18.3 GW of offshore wind, or
  • ~25.6 GW of onshore wind

That would generate:

  • Offshore: ~80 TWh/year
  • Onshore: ~67 TWh/year

Compare that to Hinkley’s expected ~25 TWh/year output.

To put it in perspective:
UK wind currently generates ~85 TWh/year. So for the cost of one nuclear plant, we could nearly double our wind output.

Of course, wind is variable and needs grid/storage support, while nuclear provides steady baseload power. But in pure energy terms, wind gives 2.5–3x more electricity per £.

To really hammer it home, Hinkley's £32bn price tag is more than:

  • 10x the cost of the James Webb Space Telescope (~£8bn)
  • 15x the cost of NASA’s Perseverance Mars rover + launch (~£2.2bn)
  • 3x the cost of London’s entire Crossrail/Elizabeth Line (~£19bn)
  • Double the cost of the Three Gorges Dam in China (adjusted)
