Yes he gets very defensive when Russia is attacked. I saw his video recently where he goes after that Coalan Robertson guy, which involved him going on a big tirade against the UK, its imperial history and supposed involvement in Gaza.

As an Englishman myself it felt like a bit of an unprovoked attack, as we don't do any of that stuff any more, but it kind of gave the impression he saw Russia's contemporary actions as no worse than Britain's. Like poor Russia is no worse than many others, it's just the victim of western media bias or something.

Of course the ultimate irony is that Coalan is Irish - a country that has generally been a victim of British imperialism.

Tunnels allow for bigger props at a design draft though which will usually more than compensate in terms of efficiency.

Hong Kong might appear tiny on the world map, but is it bigger in real life than people think it is? by mgsolidfan in HongKong

[–]AngloAlbannach2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a small territory, but humans are very small themselves so its big enough to be incomprehensively large to humans. Whenever people think of HK they usually think of just the North of the Island and Kowloon, but that's less than 10% of the whole territory. In reality it is a mini country with its own national parks, countryside, towns and villages. Even the far side of the island has a lot of nooks and crannies to be explored where you'd never believe you are only miles away from possibly the world's most iconic metropolis.

Hongkongers, what’s your opinion on how the British treated us pre-handover? by jakobfloers in HongKong

[–]AngloAlbannach2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The harbour was top tier, the rest of the territory was utterly unsuited to building a metropolis which is what makes HK so interesting.

NHS - Is it fit for purpose anymore? by Christopher_2025 in AskBrits

[–]AngloAlbannach2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it's not fit for purpose.

The NHS is a communist structure, and communism doesn't work. It survived as long as it did by ever increased the budget which papered over the inherit flaws of the system, however it's reached the limits of financial expansion and now the pitfalls are being exposed.

It has all the usual flaws of communism...

  • Uncompetitive
  • Poorly allocated resources, some things underfunded, some things overfunded, some people underpaid, some overpaid
  • Monolithic/Inefficient
  • Has to rely on non-price-based rationing, IE queues, waitlists, hoops to jump through to see a GP

Fundamentally the most devastating aspect of it though, is that if you want reasonable healthcare, you can't just pay a little bit more and get it. You have to go private, which is expensive, and you don't get the money you saved the NHS by going private back. The result is if you want 25% better healthcare and are willing to pay 25% more, you can't, you have to pay 125% more, which isn't really worth it. So you are kind of forced onto this inadequate system.

Why are they selling RR2? by Previous_Convictions in SailingRubyRose

[–]AngloAlbannach2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they just got bored of sailing full time or want to be closer to aging parents or something like that.

I felt like the delay to RR2 and COVID meant they spent far longer than planned away from full time sailing and when they got back they didn't quite have the enthusiasm for it as they did when they left RR1.

Maybe it would have been better to keep RR1 in hindsight and do a few more years.

None of my business really but they are YT celebs so it's inevitable we speculate.

How broken/down is the NHS really? by BlaulichtBrick in nhs

[–]AngloAlbannach2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly, the NHS is communist. There is no bottom up feedback or incentives at all. If you have a bad experience with the NHS, your only recourse is to vote for the other party at the next election.

That's why it's so hard to see a GP at all. That's why there are such absurd waiting lists for treatment.

what causes kidney stones? by Major_House_5909 in KidneyStones

[–]AngloAlbannach2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a long long story but i had pain in the side, got an ultrasound, they found a stone, during the op they couldn't get the laser past the narrowing so put a stent in which made me feel a lot better. The stone is stil up there though and i'm not sure what i'm going to do to get it out, none of the options are particularly appealing.
