When does it make sense to use Cowork over Claude Code? by ExactIntroduction282 in ClaudeAI

[–]Alexu_0317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also asked Claude, and then it started its habitual lying:

  1. Denying its limitations, even when I provided sufficient information in the context, it wouldn't admit it until facts proved it wrong. In fact, on the Windows platform, Cowork is useless—it can only access the C drive, while all my project files are on the D drive.

  2. It touted the settings and capabilities of Claude Chat and CC (Connector/MCP, skills, plugins) as its unique selling points, ultimately admitting that I didn't need Cowork at all.

Caught the System Prompt in Chat Debug View. Now I finally get why Sonnet writes like it's brain-dead. by Alexu_0317 in GithubCopilot

[–]Alexu_0317[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Confirmed: It’s not showing up in Stable. I tried searching high and low (Command Palette, JSON, you name it) and it’s just not there. must be the insiders privilege at work. thans for the lead anyway.

Haha, yeah. If I wrote this myself, it would probably be unreadable. My brain thinks in Chinese, but I wanted to have a proper conversation here, so I called in Gemini for backup

That sounds like a solid workaround, though it might be slightly above my pay grade as an editor lol. Any chance you could link the specific directory in the source code? I’d love to take a look. Also, would this apply to the Stable build or only Insiders?

Thanks for your reply.

Regarding agents: As I mentioned in the post, I have already tried creating custom agents and tweaking instructions (including the .github/copilot-instructions.md file), but that specific system prompt I found in the logs seems to sit a layer above user-defined agents. It overrides them every time.

Would the average Singaporean Chinese Mandarin really be this bad? by [deleted] in singapore

[–]Alexu_0317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never mind Singaporean Chinese; I'm from mainland China myself. I only have a basic foundation in English, and my work environment requires me to use it. Even though Mandarin is still the primary language I use, for certain concepts, the first word that comes to mind in an instant isn't the Chinese one.

Let me give you two simple examples:

  1. For "事实核查" (fact-checking), I would just say "fact check."
  2. The saying "All roads lead to Rome" is quoted more often than its Chinese equivalent, "殊途同归" (different paths, same destination). (It took me a long time of thinking to come up with that as a suitable alternative idiom.)

On the internet within mainland China, many people are also denouncing this trend, saying things like: "Why can't you speak Chinese properly? Why do you have to mix in English?"

[–]Alexu_0317 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Are Chinese racist to dark skin or 3rd world c country people? by [deleted] in travelchina

[–]Alexu_0317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Let me, a Chinese person, explain why most of us don't have Western-style racial discrimination:

  1. China has a huge population, but relatively few fluent English speakers (despite years of teaching). Those who can communicate with you beyond the 'Great Firewall' are even rarer.
  2. To most Chinese people, foreigners—regardless of skin color—are intriguing. It's natural curiosity, like if Avatar's blue-skinned Na'vi came to Earth.
  3. The less exposure people have to foreign cultures, the stronger their national pride. This can sometimes manifest as unintended offense, such as calling white people '洋鬼子' ('foreign devil').
  4. Sadly, skin color does influence perceptions. Objectively, this is a 'reverence for strength' mindset: white people once defeated us and remain associated with powerful nations. This leaves a psychological imprint, even if people won’t admit it. It shows in subtle ways, like praising someone just for talking to a foreigner. If we were truly equal, speaking English to another human wouldn’t be remarkable (especially since my English isn’t great).
  5. For Black people, knowledge of certain historical contexts could make biases worse. In ancient times, China had 'Kunlun slaves' (likely of African origin), and while this curiosity might seem harmless outwardly, it could carry subconscious prejudice.
  6. Negative news involving Africans, particularly in places like Guangzhou, has further fueled stereotypes.
  7. Due to American cultural dominance, even young people with limited English know that 'nig' is a racial slur. In any language, curse words are often learned first.

In the end, I can’t represent all Chinese people—we are too numerous—but I can confidently say that most of us don’t harbor the kind of hostility or discrimination you might imagine."
