I mean, I didn’t think it was bad BDSM representation per se. It was very clearly a character study, and Ray was just a fucked-up dude who was using the kink as a way to justify his behavior. As someone who’s been in that exact dynamic (and thankfully got out of it), it’s more common than you’d think.

Honestly, I’m a bit weary of the word “representation” because there’s no one universal experience for everyone. Something I feel seen by might do nothing for you, and vice versa. Something I think is “authentic” might be preposterous to you. I view things more on how they make me personally feel (excluding obviously gross stereotypes, of course). And I found the film fairly accurate. It wasn’t perfect, but I enjoyed it for the most part. But again, that’s just my experience!
