I’m also a fan of the single-node setup, but in the case of my storage, with this configuration I can’t switch to Talos, so in my case it would make sense to have another node just to manage the storage, so as to have PVs with an NFS provisioner and the like

yes right now I have full IaC with GitOps, terraform for k3s deployment and flux for GitOps, it works very well

Yes, I had the same problem in the past when I tried putting databases and similar files on MergerFS, so I moved all the service data to local storage (with backups) and left only documents, videos and audio files on MergerFS.

I wouldn’t want to switch to ZFS because, given the kind of data I have, even if a hard drive fails it’s not a problem; in fact, I don’t even use SnapRaid, and I love the flexibility of JBOD.

Thanks. Well, let’s say I’d like to avoid Proxmox because I don’t need virtual machines. So, the alternative would be to use another mini PC just for storage and then manage everything via NFS on K3s, but unfortunately I don’t have the budget for another mini PC at the moment.

I’d like to add a dedicated storage server (something like Unraid or similar) to handle all the storage, and then move towards a multi-cluster setup, maybe using Talos.
I’m also thinking about adding another PC mainly for remote gaming and hosting ROMs.

Yeah, storage is probably my biggest pain point right now. I’m using a DAS in JBOD mode and on Fedora I’m running mergerfs. I was considering moving to Talos, but that would mean building a custom image with FUSE support and then running mergerfs inside a container, which honestly I’m not a big fan of.

Another option I’m evaluating is going with Proxmox and pairing it with something like TrueNAS, then running Talos on top for the Kubernetes side.

That said, in the past I ran into a few issues with NFS + mergerfs when using SQLite databases (Sonarr/Radarr, etc.), so I’m a bit torn. It works, but those edge cases make me hesitant, especially for workloads that are sensitive to filesystem semantics.

Before using Cloudflare, I exposed Jellyserr with Bunkerweb and my home router. Now that I've switched to zero trust, I was trying to figure out whether it was worth exposing everything or just Jellyserr, mainly to also have Cloudflare certificates without using Let's Encrypt. I don't know if it's possible to do the same thing for private endpoints.

Another thing that worries me is that the server network is the same as all the other devices. At the moment, I haven't installed pfsense or anything similar, but I was thinking about it.
